Budget for Pinal County Approved/Property Tax Rate Reduced

According to an article in the East Valley Tribune dated August 2, 2007, by Sarah Boggan, the property tax rates in Pinal County will be lowered as a result of the 2007-2008 budget being approved by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors. The County dropped the tax rate to 29 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, with 25 cents per $100 of assessed value and shifted 2 cents of the primary rate to the flood control district and 2 cents to the county's library district. That dropped the tax rate from$4.30 per $100 of assessed valuation to $4.01 per $100 of assessed valuation. A major portion of the budget is going to be applied to public safety and transportation. The Ironwood widening project and Hunt Hiway improvement projects will capitalize from the budget this year. The Pinal County Sheriff's Office and the Superior Court system will also benefit from the 2008 budget with increases in staffing. We should see some benefit from this years budget in northern Pinal County with the completion of the widening of Ironwood Road from Gantzel to Baseline Road. This is a much long anticipated project that should be completed later this year if all goes as planned.
