A 4.3 Meter Discovery Channel Telescope is being built in Happy Jack, Arizona. Happy Jack is a quaint little town southeast of Flagstaff, about forty miles distant. "The DCT will be Lowell's flagship research telescope, performing unique observational programs." It took approximately four years of hard labor and intense effort at University of Arizona College of Optical Sciences to finalize and perfect the 4.3 meter DCT primary mirror, called M1. But after many hours of work and strain, the telescope was delivered successfully to its destination on June 8.
