I posted last week about this new trend of being meme'd and asking what is was. I have discovered that meme's are highly contagious. I have meme'd by Toni Ellis (thanks Tori), but I am still not sure what a meme is. Here is what my research as found:
"meme n(mëm): A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another. From the Greek mimëma, something imitated, from mimeisthai, to imitate."
In Blogspeak, However, that definition does not apply, as it relates to a blog meme. On activeRain, it appears a meme occurs occurs when someone relatively is asked to share more about themselves. I think it is a survey about you.
However, in doing some web research, I think a meme is suppose to be an idea that is passed on from one blog to another and keeps going. Another context has to do with some kind of list of questions that you saw somewhere else and you decided to answer the questions. Then someone else sees them and does them and so on and so on. They seem to be multiple choice quizzes that determine some result at the end (what color you are most like, what cartoon character are you, what 80s movie are you).
There appears to be different definitions and uses of meme's, and I would like to here some feedback on what you think the meme is and how it should be used on AciveRain.
The more I research, the more confused I get.
