"PHOENIX - Federal officials on Wednesday are discussing ways to dispose of excess real estate owned by the U.S. Government. The federal government is the largest property owner in the United States with properties across the country and around the world, according to a White House news release. Officials say 14,000 properties are officially designated as excess. Officials say the president's goal is to cut through red tape and politics and save taxpayers at least $15 million. Properties range from sheds to underutilized office buildings and empty warehouses, according to the White House website. A list shows 162 excess federal properties in Arizona, with 35 in Phoenix. Some of the properties in Phoenix include warehouses, laboratories, communications systems and offices."
