We took Nathan's boys on a SE AZ trip last week/weekend, visiting Tombstone (meh - too touristy), Kartchner Caverns (cool!) and hiking at Ramsey Canyon - a last-minute find that ended up being the highlight of our trip!
Ramsey Canyon Preserve re-opened July 16th (the very day we visited!) after the Monument Wildfire, burning adjacent to the Canyon. Ramsey Canyon was not damaged, but closed as a precaution. It is home to 14 different species of hummingbirds, which alone would make it worth the trip!
Upon arrival, a ranger informed us a "juvenile bear" approx. 2 years old has been lingering around the trails; he lost his mom in the fire and is foraging for food on his own for the first time. A lot of wildlife had moved over to Ramsey from the fire areas; we ended up seeing at least 20 deer, tons of squirrels, hummingbirds (of course!) and "THE BEAR" - here's a video of him, nosing around for food!
We highly suggest visiting Ramsey Canyon, near Sierra Vista AZ - make a day of it!
