I must admit, when it comes to gift giving during the holidays, its not a big priority at the Miljour house.
My wife's family does not even exchange presents anymore. About 10 years ago we started adopting a family for Christmas and end up giving a family who needs help a real Christmas. Its special and I love being part of that.
This year,
I ended up getting the most unexpected gift from the most unexpected person. I was working in my backyard and taking up some rock and changing the landscape when my neighbor Ann, peeked her head over my fence. She told me how her father was in town from France and he noticed that my Mediterranean Palms were never pruned.
Heck, I knew this but I did not know how to prune them. In France, Ann's father was a professional landscaper and his speciality was pruning these type of palms. He decided to come over and started working on my palms. He taught me how to prune these beautiful trees, and now I am almost done.
If I would of hired someone, it would of cost me at least $1,000.00
So, I asked Ann, what do I owe your father, and she said "nothing, he just loves these trees and saw yours needed some TLC". I thought in my heart wow what an amazing gift during the holidays. Making a tree so beautiful and teaching someone to care for it properly.

You see Gary, things do come to nice people even when they least expect it. Awesome story. And...I am not so sure this is the type of giving we should all be doing. Ya think?
Gary, that is a fabulous present! Does he want to come visit my next door neighbors? They're a bit eccentric but lovely people.
Wow! How very generous. He helped you trim them, but even more importantly, taught you how to do it for the future. Sounds like a wonderful man! Happy Holidays!
What a nice story! You better keep those Palms in good shape for his next visit.
Happy New Year!
Some of the best gifts I have ever received were the gifts of an education.
Best of all you will remember this gift forever. In the end it's the memory that counts, not the gift. Kewl story.
This is so touching! What a wonderful man. Gary, the best of wishes to you and yours.
GARY - This reminds me of the old adage, "give a man a fish, you feed him for a day...teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." That was a very nice gesture, and I'm sure that he got something out of helping you because he shared his passion. If you want to pay him back, pay it forward to someone else with something that you can help with. Happy New Year, Gary.
You just never know where your blessing will come from. Right place right time.
