First off, if this has already been discussed on this forum, I apologize. I just have to give my 2 cents because I'm sick of our government trying to find ways to stick it to us, coming AND going.
I'm sure most of you Arizona Realtors have heard about the real estate transfer tax, but have you taken the time to read the flyer AAR recently sent out? Maybe you ought to go dig it out of the recycle bin and really ponder what it will mean to us as home owners and real estate practitioners, not to mention how it will affect our clients.
Currently, we are one of 14 states that have thus far avoided this tax. I for one, would like to see it remain that way. I'm already paying more for my property taxes based on the inflated valuations of 2005 & 2006. When our home values started plummeting did your property taxes go down? Doubt it! In fact I recall reading an article that said don't count on it.
Our real estate market has already taken serious hits from the speculators that rolled though town and on the heals of that the ongoing mortgage crackdown. I don't think Arizona residents should be burdoned with this as well.
For those of you who want to stay on top of this issue or would like to volunteer your services go to http://www.protectourhomes.com/home/, a new website devoted to this topic. You can be sure you will be hearing more about the efforts of the AAR.
