The rising cost of gas is a problem for us all. As Realtors it seems there is more referring going on of clients who are a bit too far away to drive about without using a lot of gas. More agents seem to be thinking it makes better sense to give the client to another agent who is closer and take a referral fee for the referral instead of spending so much in gas to drive around.
But it's not only Agents looking for ways to save gas. Spied information this week regarding the Pinal County Arizona Sheriff’s office taking measures to save on gas. Because of high gas prices in Arizona, Sheriff Chris Vasquez of Pinal County has initiated a department-wide schedule of four 10-hour days, instead of five 8-hour days, to save a day’s worth of gas, as long as services and safety factors allow. It is not expected that essential services will be affected.
Citizens should continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies or 1-800-420-8689 for Sheriff’s Office assistance. They are going to put these gas saving measures into effective for the next couple of weeks and then reevaluate if needed. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office is also looking at other ways to save on gas, such as car pooling, extended use of the bike patrol and several measures involving patrol deputies.
What things are you doing to save on gas? And what have you have heard about other services working to save gas in your community?

Bob & Carolin -
Interesting take on what the Sheriff's office is doing - but the high price of gas is permeating every aspect of society. Here in Chicago, use of Public Transit is up over 20% year to year. Folks are combining trips and errands. Those gas-guzzling Hummers and big trucks so popular a couple of years ago - they're a lot less popular now!
We're cutting back on long-distance trips this year - staying nearby this summer - Minnesota, Iowa (friends there), and Michigan (I won a weekend stay in a KW Raffle earlier this year). "One-Tank Trips" will become popular.
And, even more importantly, folks are beginning to become for aware of energy conservation. Companies and government will push alternative fuel vehicles with greater strength.
In the end, we'll all come out just fine. But the road there might continue rocky for a while!

The psychological impact of high gas prices is worse than the actual monetary impact. While you should never work outside your area of expertise and that should be the real reason for referring business, not because you can't afford the gas. On the other hand, a little extra planning and organization, you can eliminate a lot of extra miles and save time and money. (So you can afford gas to sell homes!)
Joe makes a great comment! Thanks for the blog...everyone is talking about it these days....GAS GAS GAS!!
Thanks,

Bob & Carolin, On my non business trips I am really tying to group all my errands together. My son commutes to work and then drives home (from central wa to western wa) on his days off and is spending $500 a month on gas. I wish he wouldn't come home every week and put some of that money in the bank instead!
