When staging makes you feel good. What are your stories?

Sometimes a home that needs staging finds you instead of you finding it. There are many stories that go with every home on the market. This particular home played on our hearts.

When the Realtor told us about the homeowners, this was the story. The couple had raised their children in this house. After the children were gone, the couple decided to follow their dreams. They purchased a home in a quaint little artist town where they always wanted to be. They no longer needed this 3000 square foot home. They were ready to enjoy life together.

The couple moved and shortly after the wife found out she had cancer and passed away 4 months later. What a sad story of which I'm sure there are many - but this one tugged on our hearts. The husband was left with two homes. The family home would not sale. The home had been on the market for over a year with no offers. That is when we were called in. After we heard the story, we knew we wanted to help warm up this vacant property.

We staged the vacant property. And we are proud to say it sold within our 3-month contract. This is when you feel great. It's such a feeling of accomplishment that you can help a homeowner move-on.

These are the times I love this profession. What are your stories?

Debbie, Happy to hear you were able to help this family move forward during a difficult time.  We are often confronted with stories like this when brought into a home to stage.  It is very rewarding when we are able to help in some small way.  You staged the home beautifully!  Glad to hear it sold quickly.  Continued success!

Michele - Thanks for your comment.  It's a great feeling knowing what you love to do can help people move on with their lives.

Sad story for the homeowners.  Happy to hear the outcome with staging - I like your work.  The living room is very balanced and totally inviting.

My personal happiest story is of totally transforming a home into one that sold for $75,000 more than the agent had recommended to list at before considering staging!  I still smile to think of that.

Hi Debbie, what a beautiful ending to a sad story. You did a wonderful job of making the living room look inviting. I am always hestitant to use grandfather clocks as they seem out of fashion at the moment but it really grounded the room here.

My happiest story was one where the parent had passed away suddenly (here in Toronto, Canada) and the daughter flew in from Los Angelas. The daughter had 4 days to have a painter in, maintenance person and me to stage the home.

I am happy to report that the house sold for $ 20,000 over list in 2.5 weeks and set the benchmark price for the neighbourhood. I was so relieved for the daughter. Talk about a stressful time, dealing with the death of your mother, living out of the country and having no way to get around to get the house sold.

Thank goodness the Realtor thought to call me in. I was very happy to help in any way I could. I even rented a van to go pick up some larger items for the client. Whatever it takes to get the job done I always say.

What a beautifulf job you did to this home.  I too love to transform homes into one that makes both the homeowners happy and make a home suitable for future home buyers.  Keep up the good work!

Wonderful story, rewarding work and you put your heart into it and the buyer felt it.  Good job.

Leah - Thanks for you comments.  Congratulations to you for helping to sell one for that much over what the Realtor thought is was worth.  Keep smiling.

Michelle - Thanks for stopping by.  We normally would never use a grandfather clock but the homeowner had left this one at the house.  Because of our extreme heat we didn't want to place it in the garage so we made it work in the room.  Great story on your end.....isn't it a great feeling to help someone.

Janet - Thank you for your kind words.  I think that is why so many of us choose this profession....it can be very rewarding.

Terrylynn - Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my post.  We really did put our heart into it.

What a touching story and how wonderful you were able to assist this family move on with another chapter of their lives!!

I think my favorite staging story is when I prepared a large home for a retired couple who had a motor home and once their home sold were going to travel the USA.  After we changed several rooms back into bedrooms, decluttered, removed wallpaper, carpeted and staged....Katrina hit!  The homeowners decided to give their home to relatives that lost everything in the storm and they left in their motor home.  They were very happy the bedrooms had beds in them.  I still smile when I think of them!!  With every storm there is a rainbow!!!

Debbie   This story is really close to home for me. My sister passed away very unexpectantly in January. My brother in law has had his house on the market for about 4 months now and needs  to sell. He is familiar with staging for obvious reasons and asked his Realtor and he/she said "No". "People want to imagine their stuff here not want you put in here". Grrrrr

Dee- First of all let me extend my condolences for the loss of your sister.  I still shake my head at the number of Realtors that don't get it and don't want to talk about staging with their clients.  I am always talking to buyers to evaluate what they are looking for in a home.  The number 1 reason I get from them that makes them walk away is, "if a house it cluttered with no appeal - we won't even look at it."  Many feel they may have walked away from a great property but can't imagine what could be.  In today's market, I feel a seller has two options....lower your price drastically or showcase it to is best potential, only the best will survive and sell

Debbie, I could not agree more. My brother in law has reduced his price by 12k already. But good news is on the horizon! I have contacted Margaret Oscilia in Salem, Or. and she is calling him today. I spoke with him yesterday and he is on board with staging and it sounds like his agent needs to leave the picture as well.

The home has been on the market 6months. 3 people have walk through in that time. Terrible... The home is only 4 years old, great condition. It just needs to be staged.. It is not cluttered at all. The problem here is it lacks warth due to not enough stuff...

I can not wait to hear his success story and share it with you all.

Dee - I have my fingers and toes crossed for your brother-in-law to have a quick sale.  Keep us posted.
