Whatever you do, don't forget your camera. Oh yes, and bring your hiking shoes, swim suit, and fishing pole. Because you're about to experience Oak Creek Canyon and you can never be sure what you'll find just around the bend.
A 12 miles drive between Sedona and Flagstaff, Oak Creek Canyon is a river gorge that descends a breathtaking series of switchbacks into a scenic, smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon. Here you'll find swimming holes, gorgeous hiking trails, and hidden pools where fish abound including rainbow trout, brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and catfish.
Oak Creek, a tributary of the Verde River, is largely responsible for carving out the canyon. It is one of the few perennial streams in the high desert region of northern Arizona.
The Oak Creek Canyon-Sedona area is the second most popular tourist destination in Arizona, second only to the Grand Canyon.
