Arizona State Football is Officially the "REAL DEAL"

 (Arizona State Football 8-0)

Its now official, Arizona State Football is the "REAL DEAL" and has a chance at a national title. I just got back from watching the game, as ASU beat CAL 31-20. Arizona State is now the only undefeated team left in the PAC 10. Under new coach Dennis Erickson, ASU is on a collision course with a big bowl berth. Now, I do not want to brag, but this team is getting it done. At halftime, after a slow start and some really bad calls by the officials, Arizona State was down 20-14 CAL. The Sun Devils came back in the 2nd half to rally and win the game. Now they have been doing this all year, and no one would give them credit, but tonight the national sports media is all eyes on the Sun Devils after knocking off a ranked opponent for the first time since 2004. I am so happy with what Arizona State has done with this program. Tonight we had a sold out crowd of over 70,000.00 in attendance, and I had the pleasure to be there for the victory. Look out Oregon because here we come.

Go Devils!!!

Go Sun Devils!  You rock!!!  From this California alum...

Ginger- Today was homecoming, you missed all the fun and a great game.  Thanks for the comment

Wow ... who would have thought that Arizona State and Oregon would be the top teams in the PAC-10? It's going to be a wild couple of weeks as the BCS sorts itself out.

John- If you told me earlier this year that ASU would be one of only 4 or 5 remaining undeafted teams in all of college football, I would not of believed it.   Also what about Kansas at (8-0).  They have not started off this good in 98 years.

What a game! I hope this is the last of the "slow" starts. Drives me crazy. :-)

Nick- I have to agree, they better be on their "A" game come Saturday against Oregon.  Did you notice how bad the refs called the game.  I heard that PAC10 refs are considered the worst in the country.

..and Jack Elway has committed to play QB!!!!

Jim- He is committed.  ASU might actually be a contender for years to come in college.  On a side note since you mentioned Jack Elway, he graduated from Cherry Creek High School.  Our company was formed from this community and its name is Cherry Creek Mortgage.  I find this interesting.  Thanks for the comment.

GO DEVILS!

Gary - AZ State might be the real deal, but Oregon is fast and they are a force. Frankly, I am just happy that Dennis Erickson is out of the NFL. It took the Seahawks years to recover from his "leadership".

Ryan- ASU is in for the fight of their life this Saturday, Oregon is going to be their toughest opponent in the PAC 10.  As for Erickson, I am glad we got him.  I know his history is not perfect, but some coaches are meant for College.  Look at what Pete Carroll has done with USC.

Gary - You are right about Erickson in the NCAA. He knows how to win in college football. I am kind of pulling for Oregon this week, but good luck to your Sun Devils.

Ryan- thanks, we can use all the luck we can get.  Playing in Eugene will not be easy.

Gary- my excitement for my hero's kid got me off your topic. NO ASU has not arrived as a real deal. You have to win more than a few regular season games to get there. It'll be a nice start with a win this weekend but they haven't been to a big bowl in a decade and ast own the conference before then.

Jim- Considering how the college football teams are stacking up this year, I have to totally disagree with you.  Every team that has a loss was the real deal and have proven to be just average.  The 2 biggest disappointments have been Michigan and USC.  I can agree, that this might be just one of those dream seasons for ASU, but they are for sure the REAL DEAL this year in College Football.

Gary- I'm NOT saying that this isn't the start of a great run in ASU football by any means! Knocking the snot out of SJSU, San Diego St. and Stanford doesn't win a national championship. If they finish 2-2 down the stretch (as is entirely possble) to be 10-2 (6-2)...finishes them where in conference??

This is a team that wasnt even ranked until week 4...so HECK YEAH they're having a good season..to be up to #4 in the BCS!!!

Jim- This year in College Football, you need to look a little deeper then that.  Here is how I see it, ASU has 3 teams that are in the run for a BCS bowl that ASU should be able to beat.  ASU played Colorado and won that game.  Colorado proved that they could beat Oklahoma.  ASU played Standford and won that game.  Standford proved that they could beat USC.  ASU played California and won that game.  California proved that they could beat Oregon.  All this shows is ASU has the potential to run the table.  Yes it will be tough, but I feel either ASU or Oregon will go onto a BCS bowl game.  Either way its still a great year.  Also, the polls are all garbage, we really need some sort of playoff system.  Last, I feel they should be at 3 in the BCS.  LSU is over ranked.  Heck ASU almost beat them a couple of years back.  With a perfect record, I am happy with being 4th in the BCS.  Remember ASU would of been the real deal the last couple of years, if we had a coach who could of kept a disciplined team.  Dirk Koetter was a great offensive coach, just not a great head coach.  He recruited some decent talent.

Gary- I could not agree with you more on a college playoff system, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR. I'm a Wolverines fan and they were certainly over-hyped...The loss to App St. was bad, but as a 2-time defending national champion (that has to play in a playoff system)...I'm guessing they can beat about 60 D-1 teams on most Saturdays....Oregon spread them out and took them down. They haven't lost since and if they can beat Ohio State, they will very possibly be Big Ten champs and playing n a BCS game---how awesome. Problems start when they pre-rank these college teams based on reputation and previous year's performance. There should be NO official polls until about week 4, maybe 6.

Jim- I have always felt that the Big 10 and the PAC 10 are the 2 toughest conferences in the country.  I know a lot would say its the SEC, but I do not buy into that.  Michigan has been on a roll again, and does have a shot at a BCS game if they can beat Ohio State.  Personally I would love to see Arizona State and Ohio State go undefeated and play in the National Championship game.  It would be like a re-match from 1997 when Ohio State beat us in the biggest bowl game for us in a long time.  But Michigan does have the talent to beat Ohio State.

Gary, ANYONE in their right mind would love to see another Germaine-Plummer thriller for the national title this time!!!

.....but alas, that won't be happening :(

Keep it up ASU- you've got a good thing going...build on it and end that Trojan empire to the west!!!

Jim- I knew I was going to hear it.  What about Michigan, they barely pulled off a win at the end.  Costly mistakes and a great Oregon team.  Well we can always still finish with a great year.

Gary - I was happy to see Oregon win, but I was thinking of you when ASU threw that last pick. I just had that feeling that Oregon was looking unstoppable. They are looking so good on offense!

Gary- what could would sports banter be if I DIDN'T bring it up?? I think the Wolverines won their game and ar eon pace to actually be in the Rose Bowl though stil, right? But hey- they lost to the Ducks too.....now THEY'RE the real deal.

Jim- They also lost to Appalachian State.  But hey you were right about Oregon.

Yes Gary, I know the Wolverines lost to App St. I also know that half of last year's starters are playing in the NFL- maybe it took the new guys time to adjust? With 2 losses (one to  a"garbage" team)...and they're a mere 3 spots behind the Devils in the BCS. College football is all about losing at the right time, if you must at all.
