We call it "the Tunnel." It's a section of Interstate 10 through Tucson's downtown, from Prince Road to the Interstate 19 interchange.
The tunnel funnels traffic past the construction area where our interstate is being widened to accomodate our growth as a city.
The lanes through the Tunnel have been narrowed to 11', and concrete barriers are a mere 16" away from the lanes themselves.
A big sign announces that vehicles over 26,000 pounds gross weight are to stay in the right lane. Rignt! The speed limit through the Tunnel is 55. Right! And with nowhere to go if you're involved in a fender bender, there's this idiotic sign that says to move your vehicle from the travel lane. Right!
Thank God we're halfway done. I'm looking forward to the finished product.

I'm glad you were careful taking pictures on that stretch of road... but I bet your wife took the photo!
I'll bet that's a fun stretch of road to navigate during rush hour. Anchorage has a main few roads that are busy as the dickens but narrow as can be. I really don't like getting on them in the MH. At 9' wide there's not a lot of wiggle room if something were to happen.
Mike, I love it the truck, the narrow lanes, the speed limit but, more so the sign. How far do you have to drive to be able to move your car over in case of the MINOR fender bender? Hmmmmm

Mike, we were in Tucson a few years back and I thought the driving was scary! People were crazy. ;-)
I live in SW Florida right now where during the summer it's a ghost town, but I come from Philadelphia, and we had the EXACT same construction lanes on our major expressway. Inches from a concrete barrier and just about nothing between you and all the monster trucks. I hope you were not the one taking the picture.....

I took the photo. It's not as scary as it looks; hold the camera over the steering wheel and set the shutter to take several photos one right after the other. Get home and see what I've captured; crop the chosen photo with Photoshop.

There's only one place to pull over, and it's two miles from this sign. Accidents in this stretch shut down the freeway until they're cleared. Not much fun.

That's funny.
We have an overhead on Route 95 in MD that alerts about traffic problems ahead.
It's located just past the last Exit. By the time you can read the traffic alert, you're in the traffic back-up.
Mike, When I went to FSU and I used to drive I-10 back to I-75. Oh what a great drive never any FHP..:-)

I grew up in Atlanta where traffic is crazy, but so much more fun than Tucson. My best friend came out for a visit from Atlanta and couldn't believe our lack of ease with transportation. Hands-down the drivers here are crazier than anywhere else I've been and this little tunnel...well what are you to do?!
We just finished an expansion of the major expressway through Grand Rapids and it was a difficult time but is great to have it finished.
The "Tunnel" ?? I call it "avoid until they're done"!! If I have to go anywhere in Tucson between the I-19 interchange and Orange Grove, I stay away from I-10 at all costs. The chances of a bottleneck or jam are so high that I'll go miles out of my way to travel another North/South artery to bypass the freeway.
The freeways up here are constantly in some phase of construction. Closed or restricted. I don't think they will ever be 'complete' in my lifetime. LOL

The 10 expansion in Tucson was desperately needed; Phoenix has loops like the 101 that make it relatively easy to get from here to there. We still need more crosstown high speed links in Tucson.

I've been to Atlanta often. One thing that grows with improved transportation is commercial real estate. Tucson hasn't learned that yet.
