Tucson Artist Tom Murray Captures the Essence of the Southwestern Sky

"Red Desert Sky" oil painting by Tom MurrayArizona skies are awesome. So is painter Tom Murray. I've never seen clouds captured on canvas with such realism and painterly beauty.

I first met Tom at Jane Hamilton Fine Art in Tucson on River Road near Campbell.

That's where you'll find original paintings like the one you see featured here.

Spectacular art work!  Wow.  I want to take a picture as good as Tom paints.  Nice to see you.

Mike, you would not believe HOW HUGE the pantom ??? was in my comment!!  I don't do links or pix in comments, so I have no clue what 'it' was.  Will double check when I get out to make sure it's not back before I leave!  Thank you for calling!

Nice painting. It does look very real.

hi Mike,

wow, Beautiful painting!! It looks like a photograph...only better. I'm amazed at the talent some artists have at being able to capture the colours and designs of nature in such a realistic way.

One of these days I have to get out to see those sunsets in Arizona myself.

Good morning Mike, Nice life-like painting. Looks like Susie had a hitch in her giddy-yup this morning...

Mike,
That is breath taking.  Looks like oil, is it? Thanks for sharing that with us.

Mike, that's a painting?  Wow, I definitely thought it was a photograph - what an amazing artist!!

Charles,

Thanks for stopping by to comment!

Margaret,

Likewise!  Tom is self taught, and such a talent!

Paul,

Wouldn't you think a sky like this would have to be mentioned on the appraisal?  LOL

Lynda,

It certainly is!

Calie,

You're welcome.  It's good to see you.

Lisa,

Tom is amazing!

Cynthia,

It is an oil painting.  Thanks for coming by.

Michael,

Susie got it fixed.  She's a regular, and I didn't want to delete the comment.

Jo,

We're waiting for your visit!  Maybe when the snow flies up there?

Michael,

It does look real, doesn't it?  Thanks for commenting.

Susie,

I never got to see "it."  Thanks for getting it fixed, and for being the first to comment.

That's spectacular, Mike.  I wonder if he and David Rothermel of Las Cruces share tips & techniques with each other?

Kent,

Sounds like you need to post a blog about David Rothermel.  Better yet, can you introduce me?

Mike - This is one great art work, I've never seen something like this here in Florida, but I recently received a picture that I want to share with you that was taken in Colorado recently.

I would have sworn that was a photograph!  Tom is incredibly talented!  I spent a while just last night trying to find a nice sunset picture, and when I stumbled on this I thought it was as pretty or more so than anything else I had come across.  Thanks for sharing it.

Hi,

You've been away for a while good to see you back! Is painterly a word?? :-)

Does it really look that much like a photo up close? Does he paint from photos? it's just beautiful...how do you meet all of these artistic people?

( 08/21/08 07:14PM ) — Dana Lim

Mike,

Looks like a monsoon sunset, very nice, I'll have to check out the studio.  Hey, when you get a chance can you come up and help me with my photo posts for a blog.  I'm very challenged in that area!
