Saturday Night in the Desert: It's Raining!

Saguaro backlit by lightning in Tucson, AZIt's raining! We love the rain here in the desert southwest.

The monsoons are not over yet! We may have another week or two before the weather pattern changes again.

I camped out during the storm and took photo after photo with my little digital camera.

I must have taken 70 frames.

This one caught the lightning streaking from cloud to cloud as the storm receded towards the southern horizon.

Didn't God create a beautiful world?! I'm glad to be able to share it with you.

That is very kewl Mike! I sat outside Friday evening and used my Flip Video and captures the lightening also, need to plug it in and see what I did capture! Hope all is well and you are keeping dry in the great southwest!

Candace,

It's good to see you.  I saw that Phoenix had 100 mph winds last Thursday night, and you lost some power poles.  We're keeping dry!

Tamara,

The other 69 photos feature that saguaro and a jet black sky in the background.  I dumped them.  Thanks for being the first to coment!

That is such an incredible shot! Wow. I always wondered what its like to live in a desert. Really great landscape and such wonderful open skies!

My best friend lives just outside of Phoenix, and she said the weather there has been insane lately. She has only lived there one year and is just not used to the monsoons!

Enjoy it!  Thanks for sharing with us:)

Hi Mike,  Is the light on the cacti from the flash or is it from landscape lighting?  That is really cool.  I love the way the light is on them.  Look at the fruit on that prickly pear!  yum yum!

This is a photo to enlarge!

Yep , we had intense winds on Friday night and a couple nights earlier in the week as well. Last night toppled some trees at some listings. Nice photo:-)

Wow Mike!  What a 'shocking' picture!!  What a fun project.  I would have loved to have been there but I would have been hunting tarantulas!

No, No Susie, at night you hunt scorpions, with a black light.  Of course, I prefer to avoid them myself.  LOL!

I think I would rather brave the lightening storm than the scorpions.  I have a scorpion horror story but that's for another time.  Beautiful picture and I can just hear the rain falling.  What a great reminder to reflect on just thow wonderful the world really is.

Mike,

I have always thought it but now I am convinced that you are a very patient person.  And yes you are sooo right God has created a beautiful world and thank you so much for sharing it thru your eyes.

Don,

I don't know about the patience thing.  It's the ease of working with digital photography and being able to take photos with zero cost that allows me to get photos like this one.  I'm always excited to see what turned out when I download the camera to the computer.

Donna,

I'd like to hear that scorpion story.

Doreen,

We have a lot of unusual critters here in the desert, don't we?

Susie,

We have tarantulas the size of my hand here in the desert.  I'll have to get you a photo.

Carolin,

I'm always happy to see you in the Rain!  Thanks for the comment and compliment!

Doreen,

The landscape lighting is what you see on the cacti.  The lightning flash is God's exclamation point in the photo!

Courtney,

You're welcome!  Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Erin,

Now is the time to visit that best friend!

Shane,

I admit I'm biased, but I can only say "It's wonderful!"

It sure turned out nice.  That would make a great greeting card.  I like it!

We have had one wet summer, que no?  The Catalina Mountains behind my house are truly lush and verdant!  (Sure makes it tough on perc tests though)

Oh my gosh that's a gorgeous photo.  You are such a blessing.

This monsoon season has been nothing short of awesome... some of the best storms ever... and the hills are beautiful as a result.

Mike, last month you'd never captured lightening on film, now it's a regular occurence. Great work. You can do anything.

Kevin,

Anything I set my mind to, as Grandma used to tell us.  All of us have the ability to do anything we focus on.  It just takes focus.

Chuck,

I haven't seen the hills this green in ten years!

Rita,

Thanks for coming by to comment; God bless you!

Kent,

Hadn't thought about perc testing!

Doreen,

I made a greeting card out of the photo.  Thanks for the suggestion!
