I moved across town to Central Coquitlam from Port Moody about 6 months ago. I never thought I'd end up over on this side of Coquitlam because before I lived here, it seemed like a bit of an unappealing part of town, aesthetically speaking. In Port Moody, I got used to being a 2 minute walk to the forest where I'd go for jogs or bike rides, etc whenever I needed to get exercise. The Rocky Point trail led me right to the Port Moody Rec Center, which was a 10 minute jog away, and a great warm up before my workouts.
I was going a bit stir-crazy living on this side of Coquitlam, where I'm living in the grid of homes and businesses, and definitely not walking distance away from any nature and forest trails. Then my girlfriend brought me to Mundy Park one day for a walk. It doesn't seem like it from the outside, but this 435 acre area of parkland in the middle of Coquitlam is a great little escape from all the traffic and chaos of every day living.
It's a 5 minute drive from my home in Central Coquitlam, and now I'm there almost everyday going for a run or walk. It's easy to get lost in Mundy Park, as there's all kinds of different routes you can take. I usually take the Perimeter Trail which is just over 4km. It takes me about 25 minutes to run, and about 50 minutes to walk. Keep your eyes on the directional signs, or you might lose your sense of direction. When you're in there, you can't even tell there's city and suburbia surrounding every side of the park. I highly recommend it if you're in the area, and wanting to step into nature.
