A long time ago when I was going through a stressful time, a friend of mine gave me the keys to her getaway cabin............two days of weekend heaven, in what was then for me the unheard of Sunshine Valley! A sign marks the Valley as your heading from Hope (SV is located 19 km East of Hope) down the Hope Princeton Highway (or Crowsnest Hwy).......but for most of us it was a tiny blip on our radar and we drove right past it towards Manning Park Ski Resort or beyond.
Well I would like to say that weekend was fantastic........but despite the adorable cottage and pristine HEIDI like Alpine village setting....I was as sick as a dog the whole weekend, and for the most part didn't leave the bathroom...:-(
Fortunately I was allowed repeat visits.....and frankly I fell in love. So much in love that I ended up taking a job as the on site realtor broker for the Valley for a whole year! I moved up my three kids, rented an awesome Valley chalet and experienced one of those once in a lifetime...times of your life....

Our Back Deck.....
Hope Green is this Valley? :-)
Made daisy wreaths and pranced in the meadows....
We fished for Sockeye salmon in the Sumallo River......
During the winter this lake froze over and we'd take our skates and muffs and revelled in the Winter Wonderland!
Sunshine Valley Community Centre - indoor basketball, volleyball, party room......
Sunshine Valley Playground
Sunshine Valley has over 300 residential and recreational properties...and located only 2.5 hrs away from Vancouver...
Looking for a special mountain getaway minutes from Manning Ski Resort.......? Want to build your dream log home or chalet in an alpine wonderland? Give me a call.......I'd love to tell you about this 'almost secret' hideaway!

Liz: What an incredible place to live... this Valley chalet. So green, so peaceful... I justcould not imagine waking up every day in a wonderland like that. How fortunate you are to live in such a lovely area. Thanks for sharing.
Great photos Liz. Absolutely beautiful countryside... reminds me that it's been a long time since we visited out west.
Liz, many areas of British Columbia are stunningly beautiful and these photos of Hope fit right in that category. Any kind of cabin getaway is so relaxing for you. Keep showing us the sights Liz, and soon we'll all move to where you are at and we'll be neighbors : )
The people in your area sure know how to name places. We have several ominous sounding creeks and dales here... finally someone got smart with the naming.... we have a Paradise Valley- which sounds inviting.
Liz,
Didn't they film part of the first Rambo up there? It seems to me it was hope or Nelson, something like that.
Beautiful photos and valley, Liz...
It sounds like absolute heaven. I'm glad to hear that your children and you had this opportunity to experience living there for a year and created all of those wonderful memories together.

Jo
Love your photos! You create a very idyllic picture of your lifestyle.
Karen Anne - I don't live there anymore - but I still work there a bit....but its beautiful and it was an amazing place to wake up to in the morning - for a whole year! :-)
Ryan - ahh from Ontario! :-) I quickly checked out your blog and see that you're relatively new - you have some great posts there and you've already incorporated video...wow! doing great!
Gary - thank you - maybe we can plan an a/r get together here in b.c. next summer......that would be cool.......its really not that far.......:-)
Chuck - I always wonder how they come up with the names and who gets to pick them! In this particular case the developer picked it.........when it was cloudy and rainy everywhere in the Vancouver or FraserValley - it was often Sunny in this Valley - thus.....Sunshine Valley! :-)
Steve - you're right they did film it in Hope - First Blood - the claim to fame! :-)
Jo-Anne - it did give them an opportunity to experience life in a very small town, and amidst incredible natural beauty - and it certainly encouraged lots of outdoor/recreational activity - and their first ever White Christmas! :-)
Hi Li ! :-) It was an idyllic setting...its like another world......gorgeous nights and fabulous starry night sky.......we even bought a telescope while there and started learning about allthe constellations etc......it was fun...
