Furniture Selection Ergonomics Scale * Staging and Living Spaces Interior Design

Having worked in furniture retail and as an in-store designer, I have a fair understanding of how consumers, even some designers come unprepared for the task of choosing furniture.

  • First have in mind what you like
  • Do not consult all your friends - only 1 or 2 you trust and those you live with
  • Draw a floor plan to scale if you don't have one
  • Into a file folder with fabric and color samples take the plan shopping with you
  • Remember to take your tape measure and use it to measure every piece you consider
  • Shop with the people you will be sharing the furniture with
  • With furniture measurements, see if they fit the plan of your room
  • I've seen even decorators screw up on this - make sure to allow for SPACE!
