Years ago, a very talented young man came into an
agents office and asked to be represented. He was funny, talented and good looking.
The agent asked his name and he replied, "Peenus van Lesbian". The agent explained
to him that he would love to represent him, but the name had to go if he was to make it in
Hollywood. Well, the guy refused. This was his name and he was sticking with it.
Years later, the agent got a letter with a cheque for $50,000. What the hell?
The letter read: "Years ago, I came into your office wanting to become an
actor in Hollywood. You advised me to change my name, and I refused.
You told me I would never amount to anything with a name like
Peenus van Lesbian. After I left your office, I thought about
what you said. I decided you were right; I had to change
my name. I had too much pride to return to your office,
so I signed with another agent. I would have never
made it without changing my name, so the cheque
I have enclosed is a token of my appreciation.
Thank you for your advice,
Sincerely, Dick van Dyke.
