Presently, if you get stopped and "blow" over .08-you're pissed and in the deep doo-doo, but not as bad as what's proposed. Now they have introduced a "warn" range. This is blowing between .05 and .08. Get caught in this range and you face:
*A 3 day driving ban and a $200 penalty.(This rises to a 7 day ban and $300 for the second offense). *License reinstatement fee of $250 and 3 days vehicle impounding. (This will cost an additional $150 to bail your car out).
THUS, A FIRST "WARN" WILL COST ABOUT $600 when the law comes into effect.

It's getting better. Now if you blow over .08, here's what happens.
*Immediate 90 day suspension and $500 penalty. *A driver's license reinstatement fee of $250. *A bill of $700 for towing and impounding. *Mandatory enrolment in a Responsible Drivers Program. Cost $880. *Mandatory use of ignition interlock device for one year. Cost $1,420.
Total cost of ONE "fail" now: $3,750,
And you can still face further charges under the Criminal Code of Canada. About bloody time. Too many people are killed every year by idiots that can't say no to just "One more drink for the road".
