Salt Spring Island is a very special place to live...it's also on the doorstep of some interesting day trip options on nearby (and very large) Vancouver Island.
This ferry crosses from Vesuvius (on Salt Spring) to Crofton (a mid-Vancouver Island community), and it's just a 20 minute trip.
Now, you're ready to explore the Cowichan Valley region: Chemainus, the town of murals, Yellowpoint with the cranberry farm & the Crow & Gate Pub (authentic British style neighbourhood pub), Cowichan Station & the vineyards in the Glenora Valley, Cowichan Bay and the organic bakery, the cheese shop, galleries, restaurants, the Udder Guys ice-cream, Shawnigan Lake & Cobble Hill, with vineyards, a Cidery, farms, and Cowichan Lake, choose the meandering "old road" if you have the time, and don't overlook Maple Bay...that "old road" route is always the one to choose...a sense of history in this early settled part of Vancouver Island.
At the Christmas season, don't miss amazing Ladysmith...the town wins the best decorated town in B.C. award, and it's worth the visit!
The town of Duncan offers interesting specialty shopping, if you like trains, don't miss the forestry museum on Somenos Lake, vineyard tours, First Nation Centre & displays, coffee/tea gems, restaurants not to be missed...call me for "Li's List".
You might want to do an overview trip and then return for short bursts of time in specific areas...it's all good!
A great day trip adventure awaits you, in the Cowichan Valley (known as the "warm land"), and then it's the welcome return journey to very special Salt Spring Island...ahhh...home!
Enjoy your day!
