November 11th...Remembrance Day in Canada...attend your Cenotaph service.

Friday, November 11th, is Remembrance Day.

Across Canada, it's a holiday, and there are services at Cenotaphs in all communities...if you're on Salt Spring, then drop down to Centennial Park, in Ganges Village, around 10:30.

The day was chosen at the end of World War One, a two minute silence at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month...to remember those who fought for freedom, in order to maintain the ideals of our country.

Over time, many more wars have occurred: World War Two, Korean War, Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, plus all the acts of terrorism, the "hidden war"....

A time to remember those who stepped to the plate, to ensure that our lifestyles can be preserved, along with the democratic ideals that shape our western society.

Pay a thought, on the 11th, at 11 a.m., for all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. If you can, support the survivors at your area's Cenotaph service.

Those who do not remember are doomed to repeat, says the old adage. The goal is to preserve freedom.
