Well I hate putting people on a pedestal.....and I wouldn't want to place them up so high that its too easy for them to fall off.........or get a nose bleed, you know what I mean? :-)......
But once in a while..............or on a whim and a fancy there comes along such a person.
I'm not sure if this is officially a "Them Them".........but ok we'll fly with that.....
Today Gary Woltal wrote a post about Heroes.....Heroes are Right Here in Your Own Backyard....and with the 'Cape' floating around in cyberspace,

I decided to grab it and securely wrap it around........one of my favorite heroes here on Active Rain.
GARY WOLTAL
Gary was one of the first members I ever met on Active Rain. I read his posts, and I was 'moved' 'touched' and 'inspired'.......and I've been reading them every since.
Oprah ends her O Magazine Column called "What I know for Sure"..........Well what I know for sure about you Gary............is that You're my Active Rain Hero! And by judging the comments....I'm not the only one that feels that way about you (So Much for me being Special! :-)
I understand that 'heroes' mean different things to different people at different times - in other words its pretty subjective..... Sometimes they're practically invisible and we don't even know who they were until they're gone.......... we feel their presence....but its like the wind and not always tangible.
But when the day is long, and I finally get home and get a chance to put my feet up I know I can go to Gary's Blog and be refreshed....
Not only is he a prolific writing/blogger of seriously committed proportions..........but as a commentator he outdoes himself. I don't remember too many posts that I don't see his comments on. And we're not talking about 'mamby pampby' posts like, 'good job'.......'enjoyed reading your post' or 'thanks of for sharing"......Typically its personal, perceptive, and makes you feel like someone has 'connected' with you in some meaningful way.
They say that one of man's biggest needs is to feel like we 'make a difference'. I Just wanted you to know Gary - that you make a difference in a big Big BIG way! :-)

Hey Liz, I was wondering who that guy you were talking about was in the post. He kinda resembled? ME... YOU are too gracious and always a treat to read all your blogs. You are a sweetheart to write this post and if you could see me now I am blushing to the max. I don't take all this praise stuff so easy, I would rather shine the light on you. And glad you picked up on I don't do mamby pamby comments. By God if you're going to write something read what they wrote and write something significant back. Again, you are way kind.... and I am honored, and what can I say, breathlessly speechless. Hard for me to do with my yapper! ; ) You've always been a special one to me Liz. Keep on doing what you do here, cause we all love YOU!!!
Liz, that is so nice of you. He is a great guy, but you are the bestest :P. :) You really are a sweetheart and a very caring person, and you have to put yourself on that pedestal, because you deserve it, and don't worry, you won't fall off. :)
Liz, You are so right. If I have a long day I know I just need to read a post from Gary and I will instantly feel better. I have no idea how he comes up with post after another and keeps it going. Lots of love there for all those good things to keep coming.
Liz,
Very nice of you to tap Gary for recognition. Gary is a worthy recipient of todays' ThemThem.
Steve
Being new to AR, I was surprised that Gary took the time to invite me to this group and to comment on my first post. It take a BIG person to think about the little people. You wrote a great post to honor him! :)
Liz, Great post and very nice tribute to Gary for all that he does for all of us. Like you and the others, I always know that I'll feel refreshed and uplifted after reading Gary's posts - or "Woltalisms" as you put it so well.
Oh yeah...you are also right about how he is a great commentor also. Always on the look out for orphan blogs.. I look forward to the remainder of your heros series.
Thanks for the tribute to my favorite blogger. I cannot end my day without tuning in read what he has written-it is so addicting. It is positive, energizing and calming to have him in my life!
Liz- I agree with you. Gary does write great post. I have enjoyed reading them as well and look forward to many more from him. This was a really great way to let him know how much his posts mean to so many. Thanks for sharing this and giving others a chance to comment on his post writings too.
Liz, Sylvie, Audrey, Steve, Brenda, Sondra, Cathy, Laura: All right you guys, you are overwhelming me here. I feel like I have been gang tackled. I do appreciate your sentiments and I just try with my little ramblings each day. I do have much fun in commenting on you all's stuff when I can find them out there (no easy task each day as there are a lot of posts). But seriously, I get more inspiration and learning from YOU ALL and the real accolades should go to you. I just funnel all that I feel from you into what I write. But trust me the source of it is from YOU. So keep loving each other. It all circles around.
And Liz, thanks so much for this THEM THEM!!
LIZ, Gary is one of my hero's also. I like to surround myself with positive people and it is hard to get more positive than Gary Woltal.
Marchel: You snuck in there. I have ABSOLUTELY all along the way been impressed with you. Happy Anniversary to you.
Gary - somehow I knew you'd be the first commenter!....you have eyes all around your head......you're everywhere at once! You're always busy acknowledging everyone else......that I wanted to acknowledge you....you truly are a 'safe haven'....reliable, dependable.....always there....:-) Thank you! :-)
Sylvie.........I there a better friend a gal could have?....Better then a sister! Thank you..(tottering)>:-)
Audrey - You're right ...its a veritable wellspring of love that must be the source! pretty amazing..:-))
Steve...........hey nice to get a guy to comment.........! He is worthy of the ThEMthEM...:-) Thanks for stopping by...
Brenda - I don't know about 'the little' people.......but definitely the 'new' people....:-) So glad you met him so early! :-)
Sondra........hmmm are we 'Gary Groupies"? :-) 'orphan blogs'...I love that.......we do feel that way sometimes don't we........? :-) And yes I have 2 more A/R heroes.......or should I say heroens....heroins.......heck how do you spell that? lol.
Cathy Lee......I think he wrote........"What a Woman Wants..."....grin
Laura.....you're welcome........I only have to read the comments in his posts to know how many people he 'touches'........so this is great...:-)
Gary......you're like a boomerang!....you must have some aussie blood...:-)them themming it right back! :-)e
Marchel.......thats kind of a cool name..........well thats how I found you - from reading Gary's 'commenters'...........I figure if they like him, i'll probably like Them! :-)
Liz, that is an interesting point that you and I share. Look at who comments on your favorites consistently. It's probably likely you will like those people too. That's how I found many in my circle.
I hope you are feeling better. I would have called you the other night but I actually had to turn in around midnight to get out on the road at 6 a.m. so that was not one of my getting out of the recliner at 3 a.m. nights. Hope the migraines settle down for you. Those can go on for 48 to 72 hours and are very debilitating.
Liz, one other thing I wanted to thank you for is saying I make a difference. That key point has always been an objective of mine, so if I am in any small way doing that, I've made it. Thanks.
Liz, thank you so much for honoring Gary who has become such a good friend to so many of us. He's very special. You are pretty special too!
Gary... you deserve this honor as you honor us all, every day with your thoughtful comments and tender heart.
Gary is a total breath of fresh air! I love reading his comments, and Blogs, and better yet Gary is inspiring!
Liz, you are a special lady as Susan said, don't forget that.
Susan, I hope whatever I say has meaning to you. I keep trying to get better and as Liz said "connect." My perception is different from others as you might have noticed, so I offer that up as my gift to you. Thank you for your noticing me here in Liz' post. I think I am going back and hide under my rock now : )
And Jim, you always provide such great information about the industry and the Atlanta market. I enjoy every one of your blogs I read.
Gary - no problem, :-) one day we'll talk - often when i'm feeling le crappy I crawl into a hole and i'm not too talkative..:-) Otherwise.......yes it is true, comments expose another world of people that you don't necessarily see on the 'dashboard'....I'm surprised actually how much more some people comment then post.
'Making a difference'......I'd like to be my motto....somewhere deep there's that craving for your life to have some signifiant meaning...........in this world its not always acknowledged..........so this can be a cool space.......especially when theres people like you...:-)
Susan I knew he was one of your fav's - I've seen your conversations...:-) Thanks you!
Jim............'breath of fresh air'.........I like that, and so true! Thanks for visiting and commenting. :-)
A nice touch to honor someone with so much wit and wisdom.
robert: thank you...:-) He certainly does doesn't he? :-)
Liz, don't make me cry. I've talked on the phone more with you in the last week than I have with my sisters in the last year. You've become a great friend, and I only wish I was closer (km) to you... but I have every intention of seeing you soon... I'm trying to find the courage to get on a plane. :)
Sylvie....awhh...isn't that interesting how some friendships can develop so quickly...? Synchronicity.....i cried enough for both of us today - so no need...:-)...I have these little green pills I can send you for the flight over (placebo of course;;-)
Liz,
Gary truly is one of AR's finest heroes....just reading his posts sheds light on many things I ponder over and brings a smoother path my way. He's a perfect pick for the first in your hero series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading your commentary.

Jo
Hi Jo-Anne - Haven't seen you in a while - hope all is o.k.?...kept looking for the 5 best things to do in the summer localism news review and never did see it........hope your summer is going well? Yes it is amazing how Gary comes up with that stuff, sometimes 3-4 a day! Thanks for stopping by and commenting...:-)
hi Liz,
I've been busy with mini-vacations and real estate and family stuff. Summer zips by so quickly and I like to make the most of it, especially in Ontario where we are surrounded by water and beauty.
I don't know why Bob hasn't written the newsletter that highlights all of the winning TOP 5 entries yet...I'll have to put a bug in his ear since this was his idea to begin with (the special newsletter, that is). Thanks for reminding me as I I don't receive all of the newsletters and wasn't sure if he had put one out yet or not.
I hope things are going well for you....I just finished watching a special documentary with David Suzuki and it was filled with images of BC....so beautiful!!
Jo
Jo-anne...I'm glad you're taking some time off.....and enjoying the summer......there is beauty all around and the summer slips by so quickly...Hmmm I think I'll have to try and squeeze in a couple of mini breaks in the next few weeks - I did have that one at Sun Peaks.....but it was a semi-working one........
As for the top 5....Bob's probably busy with the 'new localism' issues......or maybe it just slipped his mind.........Its a lot of work to put together one of those newsletters every day - maybe they should make it one a week! You take care of yourself - and talk again soon.:-)
