Asking for the Order. Real Estate is a series of many little things that all lead to one main objective, and that is "Asking for the Order" which many real estate agents are reluctant and have difficult time in doing so. In looking back, I remembered a certain situation that happened to me many years ago while I had managed a real estate company in Southern California.
A friend of mine, who had once worked for me, as a real estate licensee during that time was making a transition to become a loan officer for a large lending institution. As he grew into the business of making loans, he had referred me to his manager to fill a position as loan officer with this financial institution. I agreed to be interviewed by his manager, as I was seeking a new challenge to undertake. I was asked by his manager if I had given any of my real estate loan business to my friend.
When I told the manager of this lending institution that I never gave any of my real estate loan business to my friend, he seemed a little shocked and puzzled and asked me why? I informed the manager, even though I was his friend , he never asked me for the order! I remember my friend, who was a nice guy, but was kind of a character. I always thought to myself, I don't know what I would do if my friend asked me for the business. Since I knew him, I felt uncomfortable giving my clients to him to do their loans, I was trusting my real estate income, my livelihood to support my family, to my friend who just became a loan officer, and really didn't know the business that well.
It is imperative that you recognize that you must " Always Ask for the Order", and even if it is your friend or relative, you can't take it for granted or assume that you will get the business, because you will soon find out the harsh reality of life and loyalty.
Remember as a new licensee, even though you have a real estate license to sell real estate, most people (family and friends) will view you as an inexperienced person with a loaded gun, and will not feel comfortable with you until you have proven yourself to them. It's difficult to comprehend that even your family and friends regard you as incompetent because you are a new salesperson. This is much like flying an airplane and trusting you with someone's life and having never flown solo. Kind of a scary thing, wouldn't you say? There are ways to counter your inexperience, the important thing to remember is be enthusiastic, egar to help solve the problems of your family and friends and clients who in deed need help selling their home, or buying their future home, don't be afraid, and don't take it forgranted. Always ask for their business.
The moral of this story, You Ask...You Sometimes get!.............. Which brings me to a point,....You Don't ask for the order, you Never get!!!!!
