Summer evenings in the OC are always wonderful to experience. Normally cooling off enough to open the doors and windows in the late afternoon to enjoy the outdoors. Cooking on the bar-b-que almost daily.
My community of Brea is a small city in northern Orange County. We've experienced so much growth in Orange County it seems like one city runs into another. Although it's normal for us, it may seem odd to another. When trying to describe Brea's location in Southern California I always ask, "Have you ever been to Disneyland?" Most would answer "yes", even if it were in childhood. I then describe that I live about 25 minutes north of Disneyland, it's an almost instant connection.
If you've lived in Orange County for a while, (depending on your location) no doubt you're accustomed to this "summer sound" and may not even notice it any longer. Yet for me, it's a familiar sound that brings a smile to my face. It's the Disneyland fireworks each and every night. Need to re-set your clocks? No problem, at 9:25 sharp, without fail seven days a week, it begins. It's a ka-boom,.., one right after another, then in multiples. At one time I had a slight fireworks view from my second story deck at home. Now with the mature trees that's no longer possible. Yet I still love the friendly sounds.
Over the years the Disneyland fireworks show has evolved into quite a choreographed production complete with narration, music and of the course the popular Tinker Bell, flying over the picturesque Sleeping Beauty Castle. It was two years ago this month that I last visited Disneyland with others, we celebrated a birthday with a friend. That night, the fireworks show was a spectacular memorable experience.
Do I miss the earlier days in the OC? You bet, the aroma of orange blossoms, open fields to play in, riding horseback in the riverbeds, camping at the beach, picking strawberries at the end of our street among others. YES, I miss it all. Yet the friendly sounds of the Disneyland fireworks remain in my own backyard and I love it.
If you have any fun stories to share about the OC, please share, I'd love to hear them. One of my favorites was some time back from Chris Hendricks, Where did Anaheim go?, This was hilarious.
As a note, Tinker Bell first began to fly in 1961 and continues today. I need to know what kind of vitamins that pixie is taking!
