Brea Sports Park Coming Soon!

Brea Sports Park Goes Vertical

Conceptual renderings, blueprints and budget sheets are turning into a three dimensional reality as major construction proceeds for the new Brea Sports Park. After many months of challenging site preparations, including extensive grading and specialized accommodations for underground utilities, the project has now gone vertical with the installation of field lighting. This has aided those passing by to better visualize some parameters for more improvements still to come.

The months ahead will bring paving of parking lots, installation of backstops and bleachers, as well as construction of various on-site buildings for concessions, maintenance equipment and team storage. Once all this infrastructure and amenities are in place, the focus of work will turn to planting the fields and refinement of future playing surfaces. Landscaping work on the project edges will continue even as the essential time elapses for grass to establish roots to become strong and durable enough for actual heavy athletic use.

Construction of this 26-acre multi-sport center remains on target with a goal to open the park by early 2009. Park West Landscape, Inc. was awarded a $13.2 million contract to do construction working with City staff and its experienced consultant team comprised of Griffin Structures (construction management), LPA, Inc., (architect), and Harrington Geotechnical Engineering, Inc., (soils engineers & materials testing) on this highly-complex project.

Located at the northwest corner of Birch Street and Valencia Avenue, the 26+/- acre Brea Sports Park project was designed by the community based Sports Park Advisory Committee (S-PAC) with assistance from the professional landscape and building architectural firm LPA. The park includes one dedicated baseball field, one youth baseball field with a soccer overlay, an adult softball field with a soccer overlay, a full size soccer/football field, basketball courts, a "warm-up" multi-purpose field, batting cages, a youth play area (tot lot), a passive park area, a trail that runs the circumference of the park, Brea Sports Park Aerialconcession/restroom building, and two storage buildings.
