Brea's Art in Public Places ~ Art Around Town in Orange County

Brea, California ~ A day trip around town in Brea can be like a visit to your favorite gallery.Brea Jumping Deer

The city's art program known as "Art in Public Places" began in 1975 and has continued throughout the years up until today.

As development took place in our city each developer contributed to the citizens of Brea and those who visit, art work, in large part sculptures around town that we all enjoy daily.

One of my favorites I pass daily, just a few blocks from home, it's the popular "Jumping Deer" at the corner Berry and Northwood. The neighborhood location of "Jumping Deer" is at the base of the hills and (I'm told) the sculpture is reminiscent of an occasional nearby deer, although in truth I've never seen a live one here. At holiday time you could see a red nose on the one on the far left, the adopted Rudolph so-to-speak. It was a favorite place for the annual photo for the Christmas card. At this point, that's not encouraged. The sculpture has been repaired several times and MIA once (shipped back to the artist) after mis-guided vehicles failed to negotiate the normally easy left-turn.

Brea RoughnecksNot that I'm in any sense of the words an art critic, I just know what I like. Some pieces are a throw-back to early settlers in the area. Others are...well shall I say a little more impressionistic?

The piece on the left is titled "Roughnecks" it's located at the entrance to a commercial and light industrial park. Brea was once known as an oil town evidenced by many things you see around the community today.

The cost of the contributed art work depended up on the size and the cost of the development. You can't go anywhere around town without getting an eye full, we love it.

Brea Mustangs

"Mustangs" on the right are located at the entrance of a commercial park. Brea is one of those unique cities that has some big city benefits while still maintaining a small town atmosphere. The population is about 39,000 yet we have over 100,000 people who work here daily.

As you can probably tell I love my city and sharing it with others. If you're interested in learning more about Brea take a tour around our our at All About Brea~ Brea, CA 92821 & 92823 and view Sunset Magazine, Brea The Best of The West and you will see why Brea's the Place to Be.

Lynda - what a neat program to have in place to help beautify the community and let residents and visitors to enjoy art in many venues. I see more and more communities and companies doing more with artwork in natural settings, and I applaud those efforts.

Jeff

Hi Jeff ~ So nice to hear from you. Being the lover of art that you are, no doubt you can really appreciate this yourself. We also have some absolutely spectacular murals around town. Most drive by, yet is one of those things that you really need to stop and get out of the car to appreciate. I hope to shoot a few, yet I'm not sure my camera will capture the clarity, we will see.

Lynda

I think nothing would be cooler than seeing art like this everyday.

I see the live ones everywhere by me.

I always enjoy reading your posts.

Sincerely

Tom Braatz

Hi Lynda, What a nice post and what great leaders in you community to provide for the public art. Very nice choices as well. Pleasant and it just feels good!

These are some really beautiful pictures Lynda.   It was great talking to you today!  Looking forward to meeting you and Marlene next month.

Lynda that is really terrific! I love the one of the jumping dear. I guess I should not be surprised I know Brea has got it going on!

Lynda--I love these sculptures...If I lived in Brea, this would be my favorite park to hang out in. Love those jumping deer...so cute! Nice photos!

Hi Tom ~ We love it, we have over 120 of them in our city. Sometimes where you would least expect it.

Lynda, those are some beautiful pictures of beautiful areas:) Thanks for commenting on my blog and to answer your question, I get most of my information just from being immersed in real estate and what's going on, as well as through working with diverse real estate professionals on The Real Estate Wiki:) Also, my dad is Stefan Swanepoel, so I've pretty much been exposed to real estate my entire life:)

Not to mention, a lot of my post information comes directly from The Real Estate Wiki, and some posts are direct reflections of what's there.

On that note, if you have something to add to the article, I would check out the residential real estate broker entry at The Real Estate Wiki and add your 2 cents; after all, that's what makes a wiki really valuable:)

Lynda, what a fabulous job you do each time you write about Brea. I love the art work throughout, it really adds to your community and brings it to life. When I have a home buyer moving to your area, I will definitely be referring them to the one and only Lynda Eisenmann who knows Brea like the back of her hand.
