Camarillo’s new affordable housing complex

According to the 2007 UCSB Economic Forecast Indicator, Ventura County's Median Household income is at $77,400 and Ventura County Housing Affordability is estimated at 14%.

Upon studying these factors, Camarillo city officials determined that their city is in desperate need of affordable housing

In January 2008, the apartment complex that is under construction on the corner of Ponderosa and Calle La Roda, consisting of 13 units of 2-3 bedroom apartments, will be the newest development in Camarillo to house families eligible for low-income housing.

The units are owned by the Ventura County Area Housing Authorities. The City of Camarillo has also financially helped to make these low-income housing units in Camarillo a possibility.

Mana: I am reassured that some communities and in this case the City of Carmillo CA is helping financing lower income units. We have a bit of the same in my neck of the woods. What is considered affordable in your city?  Thank you for sharing.

Lloyed, Well affordable depends on the income of the family. Right now in our city you can't find any single family homes for under $400,000.

Mana - This is wonderful. The town I live in is also in need of affordable housing. There are many units for  over 55, however there was nothing available for people with families. A few years ago, some churches got together and built 20 units, and had grant monies available to help finance the purchase. We could use more. 20 units in a town of 24000. is very little.

Awesome houses, man oh man, 400K is low housing, I can't imagine. WE so need it here in Ann Arbor, but that would be 250 for us.

Mana,

Intesting, so in fact the housing authority is actually the landlord-owner of these units? That sort of surprises me. We have some affordable housing here in our community of Brea, but as far as I know they are subsidized by our city and not owned the the city. To my knowldge, most of these are senior units.

Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Just stopping in to wish you a very happy Christmas Mana! And I am all about affordable housing and work hard to keep abreast of all the many options PDX has to offer.

Mana - we are doing lots of work to develop affordable housing here - Publix is planning to build on top of their grocery stores to just give one idea - their workers can't afford to live near stores - lots of innovative ideas.

WOW!  Real estate is really diverse across the nation.  I love reading about different areas and learning more about their market.  I am AMAZED that the median income is over $77,000 in your area.  I'm even more amazed when you said $400,000 is a low housing.  WOW!!

Sandra, I believe every town across the country can use some affordable housing. Our only affordable homes in town right now are in a senior community and that's it. This is really going to help young families in our city. Thank you for commenting.

Missy, $400K is the least expensive house on our market right now and that house either needs a ton of work or is in short sale.

Lynda, I believe in our county the housing authorities own all affordable housing, but I could be wrong. (I should look into that).

Merry Christmas to you as well my dear friend.

Jennifer, Thank you. Merry Christmas to you and all your family and friends.

Cyndee, That's great, I'm glad some people are taking action to do some thing for the families in need. Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.

Kimberly, Yes my dear, Camarillo, California is a beautiful place to live and raise a family, however there is a high price to pay for the safety and beauty it has to offer.
