The Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad in the Aviara area is a treasure.
The Batiquitos Lagoon (one of 3 in Carlsbad)is a wildlife refuge where boating, swimming, and fishing are not permitted, and the bird watching is terrific. There are lots of wonderful hiking/running trails for all to enjoy while appreciating the views of the lagoon and the adjoining Aviara Golf Course of the Four Seasons Resort.

You also get one (1) raffle traffic for prizes that include a $1100 kayak (14 foot tandem Hobie Odyssey), 2 1-day REI Outdoor School Adventures, and more.
Contact the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation for more information and to make reservations.
What a cool opportunity to enjoy one of our precious treasures and contribute to its preservation.

Now that is a kayak adventure that I would enjoy. I tried kayaking in Hawaii but got too close to being pulled out in the currents to ever want to do it again! Great post for your community Jeff. I would love to be there.
Beautiful, beautiful countryside. The many area photos of different parts of the US is one of the fun things about reading local posts.
Neat Jeff, I have been kayaking a few times and enjoyed it. I never tried the ocean Susie. I am sure you would like the calmer waters of a lake or lagoon much better. The area is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Jeff,
Looks pretty nice to me...maybe it'a from the constant up keep every year.
What a beautiful place and it's no wonder with an annual cleanup by volunteers. I would imagine that many would be willing to pay to have the one-time-only opportunity to kayak there.
Susie - well, ocean kayaking and being on a lake or lagoon are totally different. I may do this - I love visiting the area but have never been out on the lagoon itself. Sould be lots of fun.
Jeff
Lenn - and it is equally fun taking and sharing photos of the areas I live in. I, too, love seeing pics from places from around the country from fellow AR members.
Jeff
Paddy - ocean kayaking is quite different, only tried it once, and I, too, prefer the calmer waters. Glad you enjoyed the scenery, am putting together a photo show with some other pics I have.
Jeff
Neal - it IS an annual thing to maintain the lagoon in its current condition. I actually met one of the fellows who was an activist and very involved in getting the lagoon preservation accomplished in its current state as opposed to allowing it to shrink.
Jeff
Lisa - It's kinda neat to see all the people who do get involved, both on land and on the lagoon. We are so fortunate that this was preserved instead of being allowed to disintegrate which likely would have happened.
Jeff
Wow, this looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing, it's great to hear about these projects.
Jeff it does look like a beautiful place, and a great idea for keeping it clean. Sounds like this is right down your ally :) :)
Ana - well this lagoon has always impressed me and we are so lulcky it has been preserved. I can imagine all kinds of development along it!! If my schedule permits I am going to take part in the clean-up.
George - we always take visitors for walks (or for lunch at the golf club which is nearby and has terrific views). It is such a relaxing place to be, away from teh hubbub of life nearby. Truly an oasis in a crowded community.
