La Costa Grill - La Costa's Newest Restaurant in Carlsbad, California

The Crazy Burro is gone (I always loved that name) and the La Costa Grill is in. Just about two weeks into existence, the La Costa Grill is doing a booming business here in South Carlsbad following the remodel of the Burro, just a couple of minutes up the road from the La Costa Resort and Spa.

The La Costa area has a number of restaurants, but was in need of a casual fine dining eatery with quality food, a decent wine list and good service. The BlueFire Grille at La Costa is quite good but at a very high price tag, and the nearby Four Seasons is also pretty high end. The La Costa Grille takes dining to a new level beyond the casual sushi and pizza places nearby, and the chain Greek restaurant. 

Located in strip mall (don't let that steer you away) at the intersection of Alga Road and El Camino Real, the La Costa Grill sits on a bluff with terrific views of the La Costa hills and residential area to the east. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor dining (the outdoor fireplace was very appealing), a diverse menu of seafood, beef, pasta and salads, and a very respectable wine list from around $28 to $130 (with wines by the glass from $5 to $11). The service was efficient and friendly, although my sense was that if you wanted to linger you could. 

It's nice to have a new place within walking distance, although in true California fashion we took the car, which represents good value, with great ambiance, and terrific views.  Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
