Have you been to the movies lately? I realized the other day that I hadn’t been to the movies in quite awhile—not because I don’t like the movies, but because Netflix and OnDemand have made it so easy to watch movies from home. But, with Hangover, Part II coming out over the weekend, we were itching to get to the movies.
But, I was very sad to see that the UltraStar Cinema in La Costa wasn’t there anymore. As a resident of Encinitas, this is the second local cinema that has gone by the way side.
According to reports, the UltraStar Cinema in La Costa will no longer be operating the La Costa 6 theater location (effective May 2, 2011). The landlord has entered into a new lease with a new theater operator. This new operator is closing and remodeling the theater into a VIP food and drink theater concept. It has been reported that they plan to re-open the location in late 2011.
What does that mean? Will we be dining on lobster with drawn butter while we watch our flicks? We will have to wait and see. The good news is that you can still catch Hangover, Part II and lots of other films in San Marcos, Oceanside, and Del Mar. And, of course, if you must stay local, there is always La Paloma Theater in Encinitas.
