PROJECT BACKGROUND: Ramon Road is a primamy economic and lifeline corridor through the Coachella Valley. It is vibrant and actively being relied on by developers, the public and others for commerce, residential, regional circulation and other uses. Ramon Road connects the City of Cathedral City with the cities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian's (ACBCI) Casino's in Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage and the County of Riverside. It is the main connector route for the Palm Springs Airport and for the Cathedral City emergency response command center at Fire Station 412. It is a designated Indian Reservation Road (IRR) and is a main alternative to the I-10 Freeway in the event of a major closure between the Indian Avenue Interchange and the Ramon Road/Bob Hope Interchange. The Ramon Road Corridor Improvement project is divided into three segments. Ramon Road - Between San Luis Rey and Landau Boulevard. Ramon Road - Between Landau Boulevard and Date Palm Drive. Ramon Road - Between Date Palm Drive and Da Vall Drive. The City of Cathedral City is actively involved in the improvement of the Ramon Road Corridor by implementing improvements to the aesthetics with the Facade Program for economic development and business retention, Traffic Circulation with the 'Green Wave,' (signal synchronization from 1-10 in Rancho Mirage from the east through Cathedral City to South Palm Canyon in Palm Springs in the west). The corridor planning effort has included an analysis of traffic circulation, drainage evaluation, aesthetic studies and the development of the Project Study Report Equivalent for the Ramon Road Bridge enhance economic development, provide pavement rehabilitation, widening and safety and to improve emergency access.
