Julie McLaughlin Staging Chico

Hi, I'm Julie McLaughlin, owner of Staging Chico and Chico Feng Shui. I'm the mother of two wonderful children and we've lived in, and been an active part of the Chico community for over 7 years.

My passion and talent has always been using my creative eye, whether it be for interior design, painting, sketching, photography or color schemes and fabric combinations. I'm an outside of the box kind of thinker and can visualize the art and beauty in almost anything and transform it into something others can see the beauty in.

I started this staging business to help others sell their homes more quickly and for more profit by beautifying and depersonalizing their house. By depersonalizing I mean, making the house into something marketable by taking out the personal items that would otherwise distract or take away from a potential buyers experience of the house. It means making the house as neutral as possible to appeal to the largest number of people while still adding warmth and beauty.

I also wanted to help people live more comfortably in their own homes by staging with what they already have and offering ideas for organization and aesthetic appeal.

I stage using a couple of methods. I use the existing furniture in the home, sometimes adding and sometimes removing decor. I may have the furniture moved to more aesthetically pleasing locations as well. I also stage vacant homes where I bring in all of the staging items. I also consult with clients as to what they can do to make the home more appealing with what they have.

Along with the more traditional staging meathods, I offer staging services utilizing ancient Chinese Feng Shui practices to those who desire another level of design. This is where furniture, mirrors, plants etc. are strategically placed to make one feel a certain way while in that room. Different moods are created using lighting, colors and elements. The flow of Chi (energy) in a room can have an impact on how one feels upon entering it.

As a former Realtor in Chico I know what it takes to helps houses sell. As much as I enjoyed being a Realtor, it wasn't my true passion because I didn't get to tap into my creative design talents often enough. Now I'm doing what I love and enjoying every minute of it!

I love an adventure! Travel, the outdoors, meeting new people and exploring new places are all exciting for me. I also love being with my two children and sharing experiences with them. I am also a continuous learner. I love learning new things and am often taking classes at Butte college for my own personal growth. When I'm not going to school, working or parenting I enjoy sewing, painting, DIY home improvements, gardening and walking through Bidwell Park and feeling inspired by it's beauty.
