No News is Not Always Good News...Just Ask Your Clients

Clients want to know that they are working with true professionals who will take care of their needs and guide them through the real estate maze. Often professional Realtors get caught up in qualifying the clients, finding the home, marketing the home, selling the home, etc. All of which are activities that are part of the process and obviously can serve to accomplish the goal at hand.

What often gets missed is the on-going, continual communication that clients desire. Clients want to be re-assured that they are doing the right things, making the right decisions and know what is going on during a transaction. As a professional Realtor, you are likely to understand the transaction process and know that sometimes there really is nothing new to report. However, our clients want status updates. Yes, sometimes I feel pretty silly calling just to say, “I just wanted to call and tell you that everything is the same.”

As silly as this may feel. I have found that my clients genuinely appreciate the fact that I am keeping them informed at each juncture. Then there are also the times when things begin to go terribly awry. Again, this can often be one of those times that professional Realtors and lenders alike choose to duck and hide a bit until better news is available. This is not the time to duck and hide, but rather the best time to instill confidence by being honest about the situation at hand, provide good counsel and provide alternatives to the problem. Clients will be thankful and trust can multiply.

When in doubt about making that phone call or sending that email, remember that no news is NOT always good news.
