It's now official - escrow has closed, and the $1.53 million dollar Boat Houses in Encinitas are now preserved as part of the eclectic history of this seaside town. After more than a year, the Boat Houses are now owned by the Encinitas Preservation Association and are preserved for posterity. There are plans for making them open to the public.
Read my previous article on the Boat Houses.
This was not only a tremendous endeavor in terms of dealing with bureaucracy and process around preservation, but also in terms of raising the necessary funds to acquire the properties. What a tribute to area residents, the Downtown Encinitas Mainstreet Association (DEMA), the Encinitas Historical Society and other civic leaders and community groups who provided funding (The Lofts at Moonlight Beach, and the City of Encinitas).
Stop by if you are in the Encinitas area. They are very cool to see.

Great Localism post! I am so glad they were able to preserve the boat houses. They sound very interesting. We need to learn or should I say keep in mind there is more to preservation than just older homes. Have a great day Jeff!
How cool...What else is around. My bags are practically packed...Its hot in Texas!
Jeff it is always nice when we can preserve a part of our history, more places should take action like this.
Hi Jeff,
Nice to see how these are going to be preserved. I missed your prior post on the subject. I did however cruise over to your post on The Lofts at Moonlight Beach, wow, and I love that name.
