Things to do in Fair Oaks... Fair Oaks Theatre Festival

"You're a Good Man Char.... (err e err e eRRRRRRRR...).. lie Brown". Yep, sound like Fair Oaks to me. Roosters settling in for the night, crowing their contentment, as The Fair Oaks Theatre production of "Charlie Brown" enchants it's intimate audience under the twinkling stars.

Tucked into our quaint little hamlet by the river is our charming Amphitheater - opened to the dazzling sky, right in the heart of Fair Oaks Village. Since '83 it has been home to the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival with plays, productions, performances and even occasional weddings sprinkled in. It's such a cool place. The outside is adorned with pastel scenes of Fair Oaks by local artist Hugh Gorman - a tribute to his late sister, Mary.

To me, the magic of living in Fair Oaks is epitomized by these local productions. At night the heat of the day is melted by the cool delta breeze, our resident wild chickens begin settling in for the night (sometimes punctuating a serious soliloquy with a cacphonous crow), and the community comes together to be entertained by our friends. It's hard to stay indoors on our glorious summer nights.

This summer the Fair Oaks Theatre Festival has a great line up with Minnie's Boys (the early life of the Marx Brothers), You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and The Best of Broadway. Interspersed are Comedy Nights, a Children's Traveling Show, the New Christy Minstrels, and a Christmastime showing of Winnie the Pooh.
