A new ice skating rink is coming to La Quinta! I saw the banner on Highway 111 and Dune Palms Road in the La Quinta Valley Plaza (79-430 Highway
111) and drove in to see where it is being built. I love to ice skate, having spent part of my childhood in Chicago ice skating on the Des Plaines River while my brothers played hockey nearby.
The La Quinta Ice Garden rink will have an 11,000 square foot ice surface in a 15,400
square foot facility. Gary Steven, the owner, also a La Quinta resident, is quoted as saying the rink will be ready for the start of the hockey season in mid-September. Steven said he expects to have about 2,000 skaters visit each week, or 100,000 a year. The ice rink is scheduled to include a speaker system, laser lights, disco ball, locker room, snack bar and an area to hold birthday parties and will hold 125 skaters.
