Lafayette Pet Shoppe joins with Contra Costa Animal Shelter to help rescued rabbits!

On the third Saturday of each month, the Lafayette Pet Shoppe will host rabbit adoptions for the Contra Costa County Animal Services.  September's adoption day coincides with the Lafayette Art & Wine Festival, which gives us all even more reason to head over and check it out!

When:  September 20, 2008
Where: Lafayette Pet Shoppe, 3517 Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette, CA. 925-284-5212
Why:  Because rabbits make great pets!

Did you know:

  • Rabbits can be house pets (without a pen/cage)?
  • Rabbits can be litterbox trained?
  • Rabbits have unique personalities just like your cat or dog?
  • Rabbits can have attitude that rivals any cat's?  (I have one of these bossy guys, he's hysterical).
  • Often people who are allergic to cats are NOT allergic to rabbits?

Come on down and learn more about why rabbits are such great pets.

Chris, you are the best !  Thank you for all that you do!  Hope to see you there !

Thank you so much !

Suzi,

The Rabbit Lady at CCCAS (The Martinez Shelter)

Hi Suzi and thank you for all YOU do!  Another new thing I had to learn... nail clipping.  : )  Clipping the nails tonight, they just love that!

Sharon - I do have one rabbit who chews everything, one who does not.  I have not had time to properly socialize them with everyone in the house yet, but my goal is to have them roaming free.  They're a lot of fun.

Chris - they are really cute.  We have lots of wild bunnies and will stick with those for now. My cats and dogs think the house is full enough.

I know how they feel!  My house is quite full also!

How sweet!  I love them all.  My sister use to have a floppy ear rabbit named Stew. :)  He was the best.  He loved to cuddle.

I would love to get a rabbit but my Yorkie Merlot would not stand for it!  He is no fun!  I hope all the bunnies find loving homes.

Thanks Janice, they are very sweet as pets.  Well... I have one sweet one & one bossy one.  But a bossy rabbit is a source of much laughter.  You never know, Merlot might like a playmate.  You can bring your doggie to the adoption days at most places.  : )  Thanks for the comment!

Awesome Chris.  My son once had a dwarf lop.  He was quite a character.  Ate the cuff off his new $300 prom suit!  BTW if you have a compost pile you can add bunny poo to it!  Can any you can spare to send me? :-)

*sigh* caught again.  This time I was logged in as Mary DeBella to add photos to her blog & responded to you that way.  : )

Anyway, as I said, Expensive mishap... Plenty to spare, probably would get in trouble if I shipped it!  : )

I didn't know that about the compost pile, good information, Terry!

Hi Chris,

I've had 2 rabbits over the years. I loved them dearly even though they chewed up my favorite shoes and ripped the wallpaper off the wall. And they both got along with my dog.

Susan - Bunnies are sweet pets, but they can do some damage to the shoes!  My dog wants to eat mine, so I'm still working on that.

Chris, bunnies are so cute. There is a Fiber Festival here in Michigan and they have angora rabbits......which go off the charts for adorable.  The only thing that stops me from buying one each year is the thought that you have to comb them every day to harvest the angora wool.  While this doesn't sound too bad at first, I know myself and my own daily grooming sometimes gets neglected, much less the angora bunny with huge brown eyes and fluffly ears.

Oh, well, it helps to populate my dream farm for now.

Yes, brushing every day would be pretty difficult for me too.  But CUTE, definitely.

Yeah Chris, you can add it to your compost pile AND if you are ever stranded in the woods, if you can locate bunny poo, have water and a vessel in which to heat it, matches to make a fire, you can boil the bunny poo in water and drink the "tea" it makes.  Its supposed to keep you alive while search and rescue is out looking for you.  So next time you're planning a trip to the woods, make sure you take along all of the above, and in your case you could take your own bunny poo too!

Wow Terry - I had no idea.  My rabbits could save my life!  : )
