I have been at our cabin in Lake Arrowhead since last Friday. The beginning of back-to-back mini-vacations. Lucky me! I was looking forward to boating, fishing, jeeping and most importantly...hiking.
I love to hike up here...especially first thing in the morning or early evening. Just being out in the middle of the woods enjoying the breeze and view. Exercise that feels like a treat!
When my son and I got up here Friday, that's what I did. Headed out (he took an afternoon nap.....teenager)! I had a great hike....normally if I try to do this trek the first day, the altitude hits me a bit. Not this time....that back hill was pure joy!
But.....
Within eyesight of my cabin, I went down. A moment's inattention and my body went to the left while my knee went to the right. Ouch....was that a popping I heard? uh oh!
I sat in a rocky ditch contemplating whether I could even get back up. Could anyone hear me if I yelled? Was that really a "pop"? Nah....I'll be ok.
Or maybe not as much....limping and praying I made it back to the cabin. The next 2 days were not fun. When my husband arrived the next morning it quickly became clear that I was not moving. I was pretty discouraged, Thursday we are heading to Mammoth Lakes for a big family vacation which includes some serious mountain hikes....and I was looking forward to it.
Then this morning...in a combination of will and fortune. I had had enough. I began to move around and all of a sudden, a movement of some kind. My leg felt better, adjusted. 2 hours later? I headed back out.....to stroll through part of the hike. I just wanted to move....I had been housebound (or rather cabin bound) for 2 days.
As I started up the back hill.....each step became firmer. And before I realized it, one step at a time, I was past the part that had "tripped me up"! All was well. Still a bit of a limp, but even that is disappearing. I showed that hike who was boss. Mammoth? Bring it on!
