Portola Hills eNews!

Special Earth Day Information

It is hard to get away from the fact that tomorrow is Earth Day, so instead of sending everyone the normal Portola Activity I thought I would share with you some local resources to help keep our great area Green!

Southern California Edison - SCE offers many helpful tips to help consumers and businesses be energy wise and reduce energy cost. A few things you just might want to check out:

  • Got an extra refrigerator/freezer SCE will pick up and recycle your appliance and pay you for it. $35.00 for a refrig and $50.00 for a freezer and they will give you a $50.00 rebate when you purchase a new Energy Star appliance.
  • Money Savings Survey - Take the home energy survey to find out where in your home you could conserve and in fact save you some money.
  • Summer Discount Plans - I struggled with this one but made the commitment to have SCE control my air conditioning and save me up to $200.00 over the summer. We have great association amenities and can always just jump in the pool on those rare 100 degree days.

Make sure to check out http://www.sce.com/ for all the details.

Other Green Ideas:

  • City of Lake Forest Tree Planting - For just $70.00 the city will plant a tree for you at a local park in memory of a loved one, event, etc.
  • Turn your old cell-phones in at Staples right down the street.
  • Check out http://www.greendimes.com/ to get rid of your junk mail and plant a tree. They will remove you from catalog and misc. junk mail list and each month plant a tree in your honor.
  • Check out http://Earth911.org - Type in 92679 and find all the ways you can locally recycle and find out what programs are in the area.

My Green Commitment to the community, for each home you buy or sell with me in Portola Hills I will donate a tree through the city program in your name for Concourse Park.

Remember, It's Possible!

Kelly, That was great. Very good points and excellent suggestions as well as putting your money where your mouth is...I love it! I think you should be featured today, of all days!! Good job.Featured Earth CA DayHAPPY EARTH DAY!!!

Yeah, I love stars, but really as I was writing the blog it just made me think Walk the Talk!  The tree planting has been on my agenda for awhile!

Thanks for the kind words, Gena!

Great ideas.  Most of all I love the idea of planting trees.  A tree is more than shade baring or oxygen producing.  It is home to birds that keep the insect population down.  It nourishes the earth.  It is a thing of beauty that poems have been written about.  Great post and good educational info. Thanks. :) Oh yes, a great place to recycle paper is in a RE office.  I know all of you get the same amount of junk paper flyer's as I do.  Don't just throw them away.....RECYCLE THEM. :)

These are really great ideas!  The air conditioning is a struggle.  I am in Mission Viejo alot and we are already to look for one of those window air conditioners for this summer.

Roberta - thanks for comment and I agree with the recycle part.

Nicolette - thanks also for the comment and yes when the Air is off this summer, I plan to be at the mall or in the pool to cool off.

Kelly, good stuff. Green is good. Good resources.

Kelly: Great suggestions that we should all be passing along to our fellow Realtors, clients and friends. Thank you!
