The Bird's Nest and the Egg ... Communist China at its best!!!

WOW! What a fabulous display of beauty, steel, engineering and architectural design we saw on those unbelievable buildings on Beijing - China - for the 2008 Olympics!...

  • "The Bird's Nest" - The architects are the Swiss Pritzker Prize winners: Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and has the whimsy of a super-colossal Claes Oldenburg sculptures placed all around the stadium.

Starting from now , this will be the most recognizable stadium on earth and one of the most celebrated piece of architecture.

The stadium exterior shell is a helter steel web - a mega proportion of architectural indulgence and engineering stoke of genius... The breathtaking design of the steel rib-bones wrapper erecting into a dramatically parabolic shape of a bird nest.

What is astounding about the glamorous new Buildings in Beijing is just how brilliant and original they are...

It is only those excellent architects and engineers who's unbelievable stoke of geniality made all possible...

It is in many ways sad to see what is behind all the glamour and megalomaniac postures.

What Chinese wanted to inflict on the entire world's mind was the shock, intimidation, and supreme admiration for the unique power of their communist establishment... The economy is booming, the western European cars are increasingly visible on the street.... But this is China - the streets are still filled with peddlers walking among the slowed cars selling live turtles. The Cultural Revolution (of the personality-cult) remains, still visible a die-hard vestige.

In spite of the modernization and westernization life style, people of China are still very much as they always been - hard suppressed, brain washed, confused and lately super intimidated by the new face of a modern communism.

  • "The Egg" - The National Center for the Performing arts... Beijing's Lincoln Center... is designed by the French Architects Paul Andreu and is a perfect match for " The Bird's Nest"... What a brilliant concept to encompass the art performances with the perfection of Olympic sports.
What a leap of faith!... Only about 45 years ago I remember the victims who paid a very heavy price in the name of "Cultural Revolution"... They cut off the left hand fingers of one of they most brilliant pianist Lee Mean Chan... Executing a world classic music was a crime against the state!

But never the less still behind the shining China's world class architectural buildings, economical and cultural rebirth there are millions upon millions of people who have about the same life they always had....

But these days It's all about the Olympics and the excellence in sportsmanship

I dedicate this post to my daughter - Arina Hanciulescu - who asked me to write about it... She would of loved to post it and I do it for her.
