So which one is your boat? Are you racing in it? :)
Oh my Bob, no no no, Laurie gets sea-sick on the dock! Seriously! Such a shame too, I love being out on the water otherwise.
What beautiful photos. While I've never been in a race like this (or a boat like these) we sail often, and always marvel at the beauty of the "biggies" when we're out sailing.
Laurie,
Cool photos of some interesting boats. Is that you in the picture?
Love the photos...looks like fun!! I love the beach but we do "freshwater" boating here...my husband is an avid fisherman!
Laurie, those pictures are beautiful. It must be so nice to live that close to the water. I love sailboats they are so beautiful moving across the water. Are you going ?
Laurie, These are really great pictures. You have so many great events that take place in Long Beach.
Laurei~
WOW-oh-WOW-oh-WOW! Do I ever love those photos! AMAZING......not so amazing as being on one of them, mind you...but still amazing. THANK YOU so much for sharing them. I can hardly wait for the next installment.
great pictures Laurie!
This is a great post with color and local flair! I love the Hugo Boss ship!... of course that's partly because I was married in a Hugo Boss suit...
This is a great example of how to coauthor posts as well...
Laurie, these yachts are gorgeous! So sad about Wendy.
Laurie,
I have been out on the big sailboats several times and was in absolute heaven. It is a fabulous experience, but the sea-sickness is just over the top, I can't deal with it. So I happily watch from solid ground. They really are beautiful. I spent a weekend sailing on a 3 masted sailboat, much larger than most of these some years back, the sea-sickness to the side, it was an incredible experience.
Neal,
The picture is of Karin McGinley who favored us with these beautiful pictures. Karin is a co-owner of one of the yacht clubs who hosted the ships while they were docked in Rainbow Harbor.
Susie,
Fresh water boating is great. For some reason I don't seem to get as sick on a lake. It does look like a lot of fun.
Great photos!! I am looking forward to seeing them at the finish line. They appear to be at the half way point.
Missy,
I love living at the beach. It is nice watching the boats out on the water. My favorite is the dolphins, they come in close to shore. While driving down Pacific Coast Highway many times you can see them jumping out of the water. No, I am not going, just talking about my beloved Long Beach again, lol.
Steve,
Long Beach sure does have a lot of events, there is something going on here all of the time. A little something for just about everyone.
Bill,
I agree
janeAnne,
Karin really outdid herself with these photos, I have a lot more too. She provided us with a whole CD full of them. I am looking forward to Randy's post from beautiful Blue Hawaii. Those pictures should be incredible.
David,
I like the sharpness of the black sails against the horizon of the Hugo Boss ship. I expect to see a skull and crossbones on the sail, it reminds me of a pirate ship.
Irina,
Thank you, I agree, her family must be devastated.
Randy,
Thank you, Karin did a great job with the photos. We are looking forward to seeing them at the finish line also. The Satellite tracking system is really kewl, it shows us where they are You can track them here. . As of last night it did look like they were at about the half way point.
Looking forward to your post, hope you too can get lots of pictures.
I hope my pictures on the other end will be close to that good. The yachts will be filtering in over a period of time, so I do not know what kind of photo ops there will be.
There is something you don't see a lot of in Kansas.
Randy, I'll bet you will be able to get some great shots in the harbor after the race.
Chris, Ya tink? lol
Laurie - those are beautiful pictures - I used to race saliboats when we first moved to the Tampa Bay area and found it so relaxing - thanks for sharing all these with us.
Laurie, amazing shots Karin was able to get and you were able to share. I have been on everything from little ferries to cruise ships and got sea sick once...it's an AWFUL feeling, so sorry you have it!
Personally, I'd like to be covering this race from onboard a yacht....
Just saw on the news tonight that the tropical storm right now nearing the Big Island is creating a little havoc for the racers. Right now high surf warnings for all islands.
Cyndee, I agree, the photos are great, Karin did a fabu job for us. Sailing is really fun, wish I could.
Carole, Yes it is awful, I am sorry I have it too, thanks.
Jeff, So would I, but I think they would have to knock me out, lol.
Sally, Pyewacket is in the lead at the moment, they have passed the 1/2 way point, it is getting exciting now. I saw mention of that storm bearing down on them yesterday. I hope they stay safe.
I heard it all...that yacht went the "right" way and the other guys went south and messed up.....way to go for those navigators.... this am it doesn't look too bad...cloudy, some drizzling.
I saw that yacht that went south a bit on the navigation chart here.
Just went and looked at the positions, it looks like Pyewacket is about 80% of the way there, in a straight line. The other ships seem to have taken alternate routes. I wonder how difficult it is to stay on course?
What, just a little sea-sickness...
There is nothing like yacht racing it is a fun sport. The transponders are cool we used them on the Swiftsure this year.
Jeff, Nah, it's major, lol.
Scott, Looks great from the shore, lol.
If you go here You can track them here. and hit boat selector, select div 1 and div 2 wait until the lines come up showing the yachts and their location then hit play in the lower right and you can watch the race from the beginning, it is kewl!
