Long Beach CA Police Department Rocks!
Crime down to an all time low in the city!
2006 No murders in the City of Long Beach - East of Cherry Avenue-that's a whole lotta Long Beach folks.
Murder level dropped to the lowest level since 1971 when they started keeping records:
Serious felonies dropped by 4.3%
Overall crime fell 3.3%
Auto theft fell 12.3%
Garage burglary down 24.7%
Bicycle theft fell 19%
Business burglaries dropped 12%
Rapes increased 28.5% after a drop the prior year of 23.5%
Residential burglary jumped 11.1%
“This is a tremendous accomplishment. Chief Batts and the men and women on the force of the Long Beach Police Department have done a remarkable job reducing Part 1 crime,” said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster. “Our city needs to remain vigilant and committed to providing the necessary resources to support their efforts.”

Yes he is. What amazes me most is how nice the police here are as well. The response time here is lightening quick. I once called the police from my home in Belmont Heights, there were 8 police cars and a helicopter at my house before I hung up the phone with dispatch, and that was years ago. I was deeply impressed.
Laurie, smart information to provide and great news. Long Beach has seen amazing growth and renovation over the last decade. It's impressive to hear how well the Long Beach Police Department is doing to decrease crime in the area.

Kudos to all at the LBPD. If I ever thought my job was hard (it isn't) - all I would have to do is put on a uniform for a day, and all would change. They really do a great job. Thanks Laurie, for giving us some good news.
