Family Fun: The Loomis Eggplant Festival Saturday October 1, 2011 - Come on up!

Have you ever been to Loomis, California? If you live in the Sacramento area and haven't been there, plan to take a little drive this Saturday October 1st 2011 for the 24th Annual Eggplant Festival.

From Sacramento, take the 80 freeway to Horseshoe Bar Road, go north a few blocks to Taylor Road, and you will be in the heart of the small town of Loomis. It takes me less than 30 minutes from my home in Fair Oaks, and it is a pleasant and easy drive.

One of my favorite ways to spend a day is at the High Hand Nursery and art gallery on Taylor Road just a couple of blocks west of Horseshoe Bar. And the High Hand Conservatory is one of my favorite restaurants. I really enjoy the small town feel of Loomis too - everyone is friendly.

So go to attend the Eggplant Festival and you can enjoy the festival and the High Hand - what a deal! The festival is free and parking is free. There will be a pancake breakfast at the Horseshoe Bar fire station, a marching band at the Train Depot round a bout, live music from several groups throughout the day, a children's fashion show (wear purple and green), a pine derby (the "eggonapolis 500"), and kids zone with lots of fun for kids of all ages.

If that isn't enough, there will be lots of food from local restaurants, who will be serving eggplants dishes - eggplant served in more ways that you ever imagined, or you can buy the typical festival type food. Also, several of the local restauranteurs will be giving cooking demonstrations, there will be entertainment, wine tasting a beer garden, arts and crafts, and fun for everyone in the family.
