A Hike on Mt. Tamalpais, Marin County, CA

Labor Day weekend provided the opportunity to indulge in a full day hike, so off to one of our favorite hiking destinations we went - Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, CA

steps up the Fern Creek Trail, Mt. Tamalpais, CAWe started the day's hike in downtown Mill Valley, a picturesque town set in the redwood trees, near the edge of San Francisco Bay, then headed up the incredibly steep Zig-Zag trail which brought us to the Panoramic Highway, midway up the mountain. A series of other trails lead to the almost equally steep Fern Creek trail which took us up to the Visitor Center area near the top of the East Peak of Mt. Tam, a 2,571' elevation.

Our efforts were rewarded with the views of San Francisco, the Pacific Ocean and the Bay, an ice cream cone from the snack bar (yes, one can drive almost to the top!) and a cool short-sleeve T-shirt for my over dressed husband!

Our downward trek took us to West Point Inn to enjoy an ice-cold lemonade and the deep shade of the view porch, then the Tenderfoot Trails back down to Mill Valley. A cold beer and early supper at Small Shed Flatbreads capped off the day, and re-energized us for the hour drive back across the Golden Gate bridge, through the City, and back to San Mateo County and San Carlos.

This is the stuff of memories!
