An article was written for the May issue of the John Hopkins Medical Letter addressing health after 50; quoting them "Exercise has many cardiovascular benefits, People who get their heart rate up with activities such as walking, biking, jogging, etc. enjoy lower blood pressure, healthier cholesterol, reduced risk of heart attack or stroke and are less likely to develop diabetes. However, it's equally vital to tend to your muscles".
Research shows strength training produces strong muscles which we use in maintaining proper balance and coordination to prevent broken bones. Another finding that has come to light recently is the use of resistance training with weights and stretch bands to help with cognitive thinking to prevent the on set of dementia. We are enthusiastic about Body Sculpture because of all around workout it produces for us.
We started our summer program on 6/1/10 and I know I need it. I had 2 weeks off and getting back into the routine this week was hard but I could also tell my body wasn't as strong. Back to taking better care of myself.
