My Favorite Hangout is Palm Springs Koffi

Do you remember the theme song for the TV show "Cheers"?

The song went something like this: "Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name." Now don't laugh, I never was a good singer!! If you don't remember the song, you were probably born after 1983 and don't get the TV Land channel in your area. As my friends will tell you, I have got a mind for useless TV & movie trivia. Anyhow, that theme song is the same feeling I get when I go to my favorite hangout, Palm Springs Koffi.

Opened in 2002 as an 800 square foot store by owner John Abner, Koffi is now twice its original size and has become the place where everyone goes to start their day. It is located at the Corridors Shopping Center, on the corner of Alejo & N. Palm Canyon Dr, at the beginning of Downtown Palm Springs. To get the best coffee in town, I only have to walk 98 steps from my office to get there.

I'm not one for the "half caff, double foam, skinny" lattes. I start off the morning with my usual, a medium bold. I love the smell & taste of a good strong cup of coffee. But in addition to the wide assortment of coffees & teas, Koffi also serves a selection of fruit smoothies.

As I am waiting in line for the barista to take my order, I glance over at the tasty treats being displayed before me. Should I have the blueberry muffin, or do I choose the delectable lemon bars? There are so many things to choose from, it's hard for me to make a decision. But I'm really hungry, so I choose the Bacon & Provolone grilled bagel breakfast sandwich today.

One the best things about having coffee at Koffi, is the outdoor center courtyard. The tables are set up on the lawn, facing west towards Mt. San Jacinto. The views from here are spectacular!! The courtyard is pet friendly, so you can bring your 4-legged family members. And if you enjoy people watching, this is the place to be.

Over there is the CEO of the newest mortgage company in town, overthere are 2 Realtors putting together a real estate deal, and over there is a local entrepreneur posting his latest blog entry to his website. You never know who you will meet here. I make the rounds and say hello to everyone before sitting down & enjoying my coffee. I love this place because of the laid-back atmosphere, and the people I meet. That is why Koffi is my favorite hangout.

So if you are visiting Palm Springs, make sure you pay a visit to Koffi. And if you stay around long enough, "everybody will know your name".

Harold....  I am not a coffee drinker... I wish I was, because the Starbucks in my town of Haddonfield sounds like the one that you go to. So many people hanging out, that everyone knows each other and that it's a great place to network.  thanks for sharing this.

Jeff,

Thanks for your comments....I find the local establishments are a great place to network, much better than some of the "stuffy network mixers" here in town.

Harold... I agree,,, local establishments are a great way to network... especially in a town that has great overflow and the same people.

Harold, I LOVE my coffee! Especially early in the morning. It's been a few years since I was in Palm Springs but I really like the feel of community there. I used to spend a few weekends out in Palm Desert too. I'm like you in that I love a strong cup of coffee. My Mom makes what I call 'coffee water'. I usually pass on that!

P.S. I'm addicted to liquid French vanilla Coffeemate(Don't tell anyone! Shhhhhh!)

Lizette,

There should be a support group for people addicted to FV Coffeemate, but everyone has their own tastes...LOL  I love Palm Springs!!  The feeling of the community here is incredible, and I try to convey that to everyone I meet.  The next time you are in town, we'll have to talk over coffee (sans the Coffeemate!!)

Harold, I LOVE my latte in the morning and am right now visiting Rancho Mirage until Friday am.  I am so happy to have read this post.  I'm going to try and stop by Palm Springs Koffi before I head back to Pasadena.  Thanks for the tip!

Hi Harold - I'm not a coffee drinker but I sure do love the way fresh ground coffee smells and the way it smells while it's brewing.  Your hangout sounds like a wonderful place to start the day - love the Cheers analogy.  Who doesn't love going somewhere where 'everybody knows your name'??  Those are some of my favorite places to go to as well.

CONGRATULATIONS on your win in the "Favorite Place to Hang Out" contest!
Ann

Harold, Congrats on your win! Sounds like a great place to relax with some java, yum! I liken the Cheers song to my favorite hang out too :) Way to go!

Harold... congrats on 3rd....

Ann- Thank you so much!!

Jeff-Congratulations on 1st place!!!

Lysa- Congrats on 2nd place....I want to go to the biker bar!!!  Dont have one here in P.S, but we have   Biker Weekend in October.

Irina,

You definately have to go to Koffi while you're in town!!!  Ask for the owner John, or his manager Troy, and tell them you saw the blog about Koffi.

One of the things we always look forward to when visiting my son Rusty is going to the neighborhood coffee shop (and passing several Starbucks on the way) to get our coffees, lattes, mochas, etc at a popular local haunt. The same owners have been making those beverages for the several years that we've been visiting.

Sharon,

I love the local shops better than the "national chains" because you get to know the owners & the employees.  The local businesses are the lifeblood of any community, and I believe in supporting them any way I can.....I love my coffee!!

I absolutely love Palm Springs.  We are scheduled to visit there in November.  Last year we did the tram ride and what an interesting experience.  You're fortunate to live there.

Diane,

I have lived in Palm Springs for nearly 9 years, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.  If you want another interesting experience, try Desert Adventures....The company does tours around the valley by Jeep, definately worth trying.  You see another part of Palm Springs & the valley that most people don't see.

Thanks for reporting about this. Interesting.

Harold!

Great post and exposure for the true businesses that give a town a distinctive culture!  We all have our spots and thanks for the great idea of sharing our favorite places that are not so well known.

Next time we are in Palm Springs we'll look for you there!

Paul & Michelle,

Local businesses are the lifeblood of any community, and I'd rather give my business to them rather than the "national chains".  Come to Palm Springs, and I'll treat you both to Koffi.

Harold, This is a great post about the Koffi Coffee Shop.  I think I would absolutely love this place if I lived in Palm Springs. Thanks for highlighting another great local business!

Lola,

Thank you so much!!!  I think Koffi is a special place for anyone to visit.

Great post. Hopefully we all have a similar place nearby, where we can go to relax, meet new friends, network, just get to know people.

Harold,

They are building another Koffi in Palm Springs.  It is across from the new Biltmore Colony.  We have a place in Palm Springs.  We just love going to P.S. for the weekend- it is so relaxing and there are so many great restaurants and lounges.

Marla,

The new Koffi building is looking fabulous, I can't wait to see the finished product.  I have been in Palm Springs for 9 years, and it keeps getting better.  Have you tried the new restaurant, Tropicale?

I've heard about Tropicale.  Is that the new one, brightly painted exterior, over by the Spa Casino?  A friend told me to try it.  It is so exciting- all the new building that is still going on.  My husband refers to it as the Palm Springs Revival.

Marla,

That's the one....You have go there, the food is really good & it's a fun atmosphere.  It is exciting to see all the  new building & new businesses coming.  Palm Springs just keeps getting better.

I have heard so much about this place from the PS locals.  Next time I am out that way I will have to make time to stop for some java. Enjoy the weather!

Kimberlee,

It is a great place to hang out & network.  When you come down from PD, stop by my office and we'll have Koffi.
