As a child growing up in Virginia, I got a heavy dose of American History. Virginia was one of the 13 original colonies, so I couldn't escape years of learning about the history of our glorious state. As I type, I just remembered that the state bird was the cardinal and the tree was the dogwood. I guess I will never forget some of the lessons learned in the Virginia school system. They were big on the 3Rs (reading, writing and arithmetic).
One of the reasons why the new settlers came to America was to worship freely and live a life away from ruling England. Well tonight, I had an opportunity to attend worship service at the Shepherd of the Hills Church, in the beautiful town of Porter Ranch, California, which is located north west of the San Fernando Valley. We also have a church in West Los Angeles, near Wilshire Boulevard if you are in that area and want to attend. Thanks to the founding Fathers of the United States, I enjoy the privilege of attending church service on Saturday evenings. I am thankful that I have the right to worship God, without the fear of being persecuted. I don't have to worship secretly.
A church adds to the community in a positive way. It brings people together. After church, I walked across the street for a hot chocolate at the local Starbucks. I'm glad I arrived immediately after service. About 15 minutes later, the line was outside the door. I recognized some of the members from the congregation. Before leaving the parking lot, I glanced towards the Soup Plantation. There was a large crowd of people standing in line at the food bar and sitting at the tables eating. You could see that everybody was having a great time. Please visit Porter Ranch, California. It's a wonderful community. If you want more information, just send me an email through Active Rain. We have so much to be thankful for. Good night everybody!
