Awhile back, my daughter, Jill was asked by her employer, "What was your first job and what did it teach you?" This is what she wrote:
"When I was about five years old my brother, sister, and I picked up walnuts from the back yard. We weighed and bagged them, put them in a little red wagon and sold them door-to-door on Saturdays. It was tiring, but effective in fattening up our piggy banks. There were a lot of lessons learned from dragging that little wagon door-to-door. I learned that hard work, perseverance and a friendly smile really pay off in the sales world. I also learned the basics of handling money and keeping track of earnings to be sure I was paid my fair share. Mostly, though, I learned the value of teamwork; you can fill the wagon faster when everyone helps; nobody gets too tired when you take turns pulling the wagon; and best of all, if you have a nice brother to pull the wagon home, you can catch a ride and rest your weary feet (but if you start throwing nuts at him, the ride will promptly end and he'll whomp on you)!:
