Host a Seminar or Workshop: Gain Clients & Credibility

Name recognition, expert status, putting a few more leads into the pipeline... who wouldn't want that? Just organize a seminar or workshop! It's a great way to gain new clients. (Caution: It does take a lot of time to coordinate all the details & market it.)

Before teaching a specific subject, I recommend that you attend other classes on the same topic so you know what your competition is doing. Make it short (2 hours if you can); and, of course, cover only 1 topic per seminar.

When you're done, you can also turn your seminar into an online webinar, just using your powerpoint slides at www.slideshare.com .

You'll have to:

  • Rent a room
  • Get sponsors
  • Publicize the event

The best way to find sponsors are the affiliates at your local MLS meeting. If you don't have an overhead projector, you'll need to rent one from the meeting room venue. Keep your topic short (2 hours max) and free. Make flyers and email / hand out to everyone who may be interested (but don't send spam email to folks you don't know).

Look at what others are doing and get some ideas of how to do it. And use www.EventBrite.com to get registration -- it's free if your event is free!
