San Diego's Mission Valley condos with Realtor Jim Frimmer: After this weekend, San Diego will be ours again!

If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and comment.

You might have noticed from your Mission Valley condo in the heart of San Diego that there have been a lot of cars with license plates from Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho.

There is a reason for that.

People in northern parts of the country like to brag about their four seasons. We have five definite seasons here, although some of them overlap:

  1. Rain season
  2. Mudslide season
  3. Drought season
  4. Fire season
  5. Tourist season

Tourist season, lasting from Memorial Day to Labor Day, is one we look forward to before Memorial Day because Tourists bring a lot of money with them. However, as it gets closer to Labor Day and we're all tuckered out from making so much money, we look forward to them going home so we can start our vacations.

As the crowds dwindle after Labor Day, here are some things you can do to get out and explore all that San Diego has to offer.

  1. Block out time - Just like Tourists do when they block out time to go on vacation. If you want to take the kids, make it a weekend. If you enjoy the kids being in school, go on a week day.
  2. Plan daily or weekly itineraries - There is so much to do in San Diego that you can do just one thing every day for a year and still not seen everything.San Diego Trolley
  3. Go public - Leave the car at home and use the bus system, the San Diego Trolley, the Coaster, Amtrak, or the Sprinter. It's even possible to go to Los Angeles for the day without taking the car or flying. Simply take Amtrak or have even more fun taking the Coaster from downtown to Oceanside and then switch to Metrolink to take you from Oceanside to downtown Los Angeles. You'll see sights that you can't see while driving a car at freeway speeds.
  4. Marriott Hotel, downtown San DiegoBook yourself a hotel room - Believe it or not, you don't have to be from out of town to be eligible to stay in a hotel. I spent my first anniversary at the Marriott in downtown San Diego, some place that I had always wanted to stay but never had a reason (or the money).
  5. Don't work - It's hard to do, but resist the temptation to Play in the Rain while. Remember that you're on vacation, even if it's just for a couple of hours or a day.
